Happy Monday Everyone!
I just wanted to say thank you so much for the amazing start to Teacher Appreciation Week. I absolutely loved the roses from the students, the students dressing up in Disney inspired gear, and the adorable door! You brought me to tears a couple of times today! I’m one lucky teacher!
This week we will finish up our M-STEP testing for third grade. Please remember on test days to make sure your child gets extra sleep, a delicious breakfast, and shows up on time to school. We want to make sure everyone is ready to do their best and beat this test! In addition, if you can make sure to send in two snacks with your child on testing days that would be wonderful.
Since we are testing this week, we will not have a reading log or spelling words this week. We need to make sure these brains are rested. Listed below you will see what else we will be covering this week.
Reading- Wrapping up nonfiction reading and beginning our dive into figurative language. Discussing the difference between metaphors and similes within writing. DRA testing will begin this week and continue for the month of May.
Writing- Beginning our personal essay writing. Discussing what a personal essay is, and how do we apply our own personal examples in them.
Math- Starting our Module 6: Collecting and Displaying Data. Students will practice organizing data with tally charts, bar graphs, and pictographs this week. M-STEP Math begins.
Social Studies- Continuing our social studies unit on economics. Students will learn about interdependence and specialization, about the future of Michigan’s economy, and the role of the government in economics. The Economics social studies test will be on Fri. Listed below is the study guide for the test.
Economics of Michigan Study Guide
Science-
This week we will learn about flowers: what they do for the plant, how they work, and more. We will solve the mystery, “Why do plants grow flowers?” (It’s to attract pollinators!)
You can help reinforce this week’s learning by asking your child to find a flower in the house, yard, or neighborhood. Ask your child, “What has to happen, in order for this plant to grow seeds?”
Spelling- No spelling this week due to M-STEP
Leader in Me- Habit 6: Synergize teaches us that when two or more people work together, they accomplish more than either could have alone. Synergy is more than compromise, which results in both people losing a little. And it is more than cooperation, where you basically double your options. Leaders go beyond cooperation to creativity, which results in achieving amazing and seemingly impossible results. Discuss with your child, “What are the benefits of involving others?”
