Welcome Back from Mid Winter Break!
This week is a short but busy week at Lindbergh for our third graders! We will be embarking on our Lansing field trip, updating our WIGs (Wildly Important Goals), and continuing on our curriculum this week. Listed below are some of our Big Rocks this week.
New Permissions slips sent home today. We had to send home new permission slips due to the date change. If you are not allowing your child to attend this field trip please let me know on the bottom of your permission slip. Please let me know if you are sending your child to school so I need to find a classroom for them or if you are keeping them at home. Listed below is the link to the permission slip.

We had no school on Monday (as you know), Thursday we are on our field trip remember be here at 6:40-6:45 am. Wear your Lansing shirt or Lindbergh shirt!
I will be sending out an additional post about the logistics for Thursday. So be on the look out!
Wildly Important Goals (WIGS)- This week your child will be working on updating their WIG on our first “Freshen it Up Friday.” We will be looking over our NWEA and DRA scores and coming up with a game plan on how to achieve a goal. Make sure to discuss this with your child this Friday! We are getting very excited for it!
Science- This week in science we will continue with the topic of dinosaurs. We asked the question, “Can you outrun a dinosaur?” Your child will see pictures showing how dinosaurs didn’t just leave behind bones, they also left footprints, some of which fossilized. By examining our own footprints and those of living animals, we were able to deduce how quickly some dinosaurs were able to run.
You can reinforce your child’s learning at home by pointing out footprints while on a walk. (Getting a shoe slightly wet in a puddle leaves behind visible tracks.) Ask your child, “Is it possible to tell the difference between walking and running just from footprints? How are they different?”
Social Studies- Discussing how farming and the lumber industry has grown Michigan’s population and economy.
Math- Using the associative property as a strategy to multiply. We will be stepping into Module 3 Topic C: Multiplication and Division with units of 9. We will practice using the distributive property and other strategies to solve multiplication and division problems with units of 9.
We also are continuing on our Multiplication Timed Test Jedi adventure. Please make sure that you are reviewing with your child their multiplication flash cards at home!
Spelling- None due to the shortened week
Writing – We will be developing a clear narrative writing piece using a beginning, middle, and end. Mapping out our stories using a story arch and creating a great lead!
Reading – Discussing the three different text types: drama (play), stories, and poems. Discussing the key differences between each (new terminology/how they are organized), and using dramas to present/discuss morals within folktales.
Please make sure to continue reading with your child 20 mins. a night! This is crucial to their success within their reading!
Leader in Me- We will be discussing win-win solutions this week! Habit 4: Think Win-Win is an attitude toward life—a mental frame of mind that says I can win, and so can you. It’s not me or you, it’s both of us. Think
Win-Win is the foundation for getting along well with others and solving problems.
