Belwork reinforced the concept that transformations performed on a function are the same regardless of what the parent function looks like.

The remainder of the period students reviewed how to factor and find zeros of the factors (x-intercepts).

Bellwork reviewed factoring and finding x-intercepts from the factors.

The remainder of the period we continued discussing Sec 5-4 by factoring the Difference of Perfect Squares.

Hwk #14 is due tomorrow for 1st hour and is due Thursday for 3rd hour.

Students in 3rd hour were not introduced to factoring the Difference of Perfect Squares because they were in a meeting with a college representative for the first half of the period.

Bellwork reviewed Vertex Form for the equation of a parabola.

Students took a homework quiz over sec 5-2 and 5-3

The remainder of the period we began our discussion on Sec 5-4:  Factoring Quadratics.

Hwk #14 will be due on Wednesday since Juniors missed all or part of class last Thursday and Friday.

There will be a quiz over sections 5-1 to 5-4 later this week, either Thursday or Friday.  The exact date will be determined tomorrow.

Juniors were not in class because they were taking a practice ACT exam.

Bellwork was practice PLAN questions.  The Sophomores will be taking the PLAN test in the spring.

Bellwork reviewed finding the maximum value of a quadratic function and when it occurs as well as finding the LOS, Vertex, and y-intercept of a quadratic in Vertex Form.

The remainder of the period we finished our discussion on Sec 5-3 by graphing quadratics given Vertex Form and writing the equation of the graph of a parabola in Vertex Form.

Students took a homework quiz today over Sec 5-1 and 5-2.

Bellwork reviewed graphing parabolas using Standard Form for the equation of a quadratic and finding the maximum value of a function and when it occurs.

The remainder of the period we discussed situations that could be modeled with a quadratic and how to find values that maximize a certain quantity (sec 5-2).  We then began our discussion on Vertex Form for the equation of a quadratic (Sec 5-3).

Hwk #12 is due tomorrow.

Hwk #13 will be due on Thursday, October 17.  Students are to use the sheet I’ve provided.
