1st, 2nd, 3rd Hours:

Bellwork reviewed combined variations.

Hwk #3 is due today.

The remainder of the period we began discussing the graph of the Parent Reciprocal Function and transformations of this function, Sec 9-2.

4th & 5th Hours:

Today’s bellwork reviewed graphs of y=ax^+c, finding y-intercepts, and whether a parabola has a maximum or a minimum.

Hwk #4 is due today.

The remainder of the period we discussed how to find the equation for the Line of Symmetry for a quadratic in Standard Form (y=ax^2+bx+c) then finding the coordinates of the vertex and finally, graphing the parabola.

Hwk #5 is due tomorrow.  Practice Sheet Sec 5-2.

There will be a short quiz tomorrow over what has been covered so far this semester:

  • Graph a parabola w/o a graphing calculator
  • State the equation of the LOS given the vertex.
  • State the equation of the LOS given the equation of the quadratic.
  • State the coordinates of the vertex given the equation of the quadratic.
  • State the y-intercept given the equation of the quadratic.
  • Determine if the parabola opens up or down.
  • Determine if the parabola has a Max or a Min.
  • Make a scatter plot & find the regression equation that fits the data.
