Daily Blog for 5/1/2020

It is May 1! Lately it hasn’t felt like it. However, it looks like today will be a very nice day! I will be checking the assignments from this week over the weekend. Please submit these assignments today if at all possible. Remember that I need to report the students who are not participating in the online work. I am also looking into setting up a new way of holding virtual meetings through I-Learn and the Big Blue Button (BBB). More information on that will come in the next few days. I hope you all have a great day!

Daily Blog for 4/29/2020

I am sorry that I am posting this blog later in the day. However, I have been very busy making screencastify videos for all of my classes.

For the Geometry classes, I know that I said that I would not make any videos for the Circumference and Area of Circles multiple choice quiz, but I do think that some of these problems were pretty difficult given the fact that we are having to learn this material online. Therefore, I have made two videos for this quiz. The first video shows you how to do numbers 5, 8, and 9. The second video is for #’s 13-16. All of the other problems on this quiz should be easier for you to understand, but if you do need some help on any of the other problems, then please let me know. I also made 5 screencastify videos explaining all of the problems on the Tangent Lines WS which had 10 problems on it. Please take your time to watch all of these videos, and write out all of your work and send me a picture of your completed work.

For the ASAP classes, I have also made screencastify videos for each of your assignments which were posted and due this week. Very few students have been staying on top of their work and completing most of these assignments. Please remember that it is extremely important for you to complete this online work in order to receive credit for this class. I have been in touch with Mr. Naimi about this and he is extremely concerned about the lack of participation from many of you.

Please let me know what I can do to help you with any of this work!

Daily Blog for 4/28/2020

Good morning everyone! I just wanted to remind you all that the virtual meetings which were originally scheduled for today have been cancelled at this time because the district has suspended the use of students accessing Google Meet. I am looking into learning a new platform through I-Learn which is called “Big Blue Button” (BBB). I have a learning session about this system on Thursday morning. So, possibly next week, we will get back to having virtual meetings again through I-Learn and BBB. I will let you know if we will move to this new platform for virtual meetings. I will still continue to use Google Classroom for posting all assignments and videos. Mrs. O’Donnell has started to introduce me to a website called Quizizz that I may start using to offer online quizzes which would give you some quick checks to see how well we are learning the material.

Geometry students, please work on the quiz which I posted this week about circumference, arcs, arc length, and area of circles and sectors. Please send me your completed quiz as soon as you are done with it. I will not be making a screencastify video for this quiz. I have also posted some new notes and a video about tangent lines to a circle along with a short assignment about tangent lines. I will post a screencastify video about this assignment tomorrow.

ASAP students, please note that I have also posted new assignments, guided notes, and videos for your classes as well. Please also make sure that you complete the assignments from last week if you have not already done so. Remember that if you do not complete and turn in at least 60% of the online assignments, then you will receive an N for the class and will not receive credit for it. I truly hope that nobody falls into this category.

Have a great day! Please let me know of anything that I can do to help you with anything! I miss you all!

Daily Blog for 4/27/2020

I hope that you all had a very nice weekend! It looks like it is going to be a pretty nice day outside today.

Since this is the beginning of a new week, there are new assignments, new pages of guided notes, and videos for the guided notes posted for all classes. Please note, the district has suspended the use of Google Meet for virtual class discussions for the time being. Therefore, the virtual meetings scheduled for Tuesdays and my office hours scheduled for Thursdays are cancelled until further notice. I am hoping that we will be able to continue with these learning opportunities in the near future.

For my Geometry classes, I have posted two new things which will need to be turned in by Friday, May 1, 2020. The first assignment is actually a multiple choice quiz about circumference, arcs, arc length, and area of circles and sectors. Please complete these problems and make sure that I can clearly see the answers you circle because I will be grading these quizzes. I will not be making a screencastify video for the quiz, but if you are struggling on some specific problems, then please email me. There is also some new material posted teaching you about tangent lines to a circle. I made a video to explain and teach my guided notes. I hope this video will give you some idea of how to solve the problems on the Tangent Lines worksheet which is also posted and due on Friday, May 1. Later in the week (probably on Wednesday), I will post a screencastify video for this worksheet.

For my ASAP classes, I will also be posting new assignments and guided notes for your classes as well. Many of you still have not completed the assignments from this past week. Please remember that participation in these online learning activities is required and does count toward your final grade.

Daily Blog for 4/24/2020

Happy Friday everyone! I know that Friday probably does not feel very different from any other day right now.

The superintendent will be sending a letter to all families regarding virtual meetings. You may have already received this letter. There have been some issues with virtual meetings at different buildings throughout the district. What has happened is that some students decided to disrupt these meetings and insert inappropriate content such as profanity and pornography. I am very proud of the fact that in all of the virtual meetings that I have had, all of you conducted yourselves in a respectful manner. I thought the meetings were helpful and productive. It was good to see and talk to many of you again. As a result of the disruptive meetings around the district, they have decided to suspend the use of Google Meet for students for the time being. They may encourage us to use a different virtual meeting platform, or they may open up again and allow us to continue to use Google Meet. I will let you know more when I hear more from the district. Therefore, the virtual meetings scheduled for Tuesday are cancelled until further notice. It is extremely important for all of you to know that if you purposely disrupt any learning activity online, then the district will take severe action against any individual involved. They take this very seriously!

This weekend I will grade the assignments which are due this week. Please remember that I do need to document which students are actively involved in the learning activities and which students are not doing anything.

Please continue to email me with any questions or concerns that you have about anything. I hope that you all have a great weekend!

Daily Blog for 4/23/2020

This is the first time that I have written my blog just after midnight for the coming day. I have been busy making many new screencastify videos for all of the assignments in each of my classes. I am sorry that I didn’t get these posted until now, but we had many people in my house that had to use the computers all day today. Please take the time to carefully watch these videos to help you learn how to solve the problems on each assignment.

Remember, tomorrow I will be open for office hours from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm. I will make a Google MEET for this. The nickname will be: Reddeman Office. If you were not able to join the virtual meetings held on Tuesday, then please join tomorrow and I will count it for attendance at Tuesday’s meeting. I will not do this every week, but I want to make sure that everyone knows how to join a Google MEET.

I hope that you are all aware by now that everything that you do counts for credit. Submitting assignments and attending virtual meetings are all you need to do to be successful for the online learning in my class. Please continue to communicate with me whenever you are having issues. Trust me, I understand that there are many things that don’t always go as we planned. I am here to help you through it. Some of you have had very little (if any) contact or activity with the online learning. You need to know that each week I must fill out forms about student engagement for all of my classes. Therefore, if you do not attend the virtual meetings or submit any assignments, then I need to document this on the MTSS form.

Have a great day today! I look forward to hearing from some of you soon!

Daily Blog for 4/22/2020

Well it doesn’t feel very much like late April outside today. It is very cold this morning!

I plan on making some screencastify videos for your assignments and posting them later today. Please remember that now everything we do online counts toward your grade. Many of you attended the virtual meetings on Google Meet yesterday. It is very helpful that you attend these meetings each week because simply joining these virtual meetings will count toward the online participation grade. It would be a shame to miss out on easy points like this. If you did not attend yesterday’s meeting, then I will count the points for you if you attend my office hours meeting tomorrow at 11:00 am. The nickname for that meeting is: Reddeman Office. Please feel free to stop by and ask any questions that you have about my class or the Geometry online assignments.

I certainly hope that everything is going well for you and your families! Please continue to work on this remote learning and let me know how I can best help you with any of it! Have a great day!

Today, will be our first scheduled virtual meetings for Geometry (and for ASAP). I sent you all an email with the instructions for how to join the virtual meeting today. At this meeting, I will be discussing the district remote learning policy, and how we will progress moving forward. I highly encourage you to attend one of these meetings.

Daily Blog for 4/20/2020

Happy Monday! It is a little cold out this morning, but at least the sun is shining! This is a big week with a lot of new information.

You should have all received some information from the school and the school district in the past few days. The district has adopted a new remote learning plan which was accepted by the county intermediate school district (RESA). The schools have been given specific guidelines to follow in this remote learning plan. We are required to inform the school of student participation of the learning activities. As a result, starting this week, I will be sharing a list of students who have not been active in the online learning activities. The school has developed an MTSS team which is a group of administrators and counselors who will be contacting students and parents directly when they do not participate in the online learning process. Each teacher is supposed to have at least two points of contact with each student every week. A point of contact can be as simple as joining a virtual meeting every week, or joining a meeting during office hours time. A point of contact is also engaging in the online assignments which are posted each week. In short, it is pretty easy to achieve the goal of participating in 75% of the activities.

We have also been given guidelines about the grading policy for this semester. High school students can now be given three options for a grade at the end of the school year. A student can earn an “A” grade if they had a decent grade prior to the shutdown (A, B, or C) and then they participate in at least 75% of the online learning activities. A student can receive a passing grade for the class “G” if they participate in at least 60% of the online learning activities. If a student had a low grade (D or E) prior to the shutdown, then they may be able to go back and raise that part of their grade by making up missing work and/or retaking quizzes or tests from those earlier units. You will need to make arrangements with me about this if you are interested. Please note: a student can receive a failing grade “N” (No Credit) if they chose to participate in less than 60% of the remote learning activities.

Today, I will be adding two new assignments for the Geometry classes. However, I made sure that these new assignments were not over new material. They are assignments very similar to the work from last week. Please go back and look at the videos and assignments from last week to help you complete these assignments. Later in the week, I will be making new screencastify videos to help you better understand how to do this work.

On Tuesday of this week, I will be offering the first Google Meet meeting for my classes. At 12 pm, I will have a Google Meet meeting for hours 1 – 4 (Nickname: Reddeman Geo 1). At 1 pm, I will have a Google Meet meeting for 6th hour (Nickname: Reddeman Geo 2). For my two ASAP Algebra classes, I will have a Google Meet meeting at 2pm (Nickname: Reddeman ASAP). I will also be holding virtual office hours on Thursdays at 11 am. For the office hours, you will again go to Google Meet (Nickname: Reddeman Office). I will email you with more specific information about how to access these meetings.
