Daily Blog for 9/24/2020

Today is “A” day. Therefore, we will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Hour Zoom meeting during synchronous time this afternoon.

For Geometry, there are two new things assigned in Envision (RL4 and Qz1). For Algebra 1, there is also a new assignment posted in Envision (RL4). Please make sure that you complete all new assignments by the following Zoom meeting.

There are some students who have not been staying up to date at completing their assignments. I will be contacting some students by phone to try to help them get back on track.

We are now rolling along into our third week. For many of you, things have started off very well! For some of you, I have not received much work from you and you have not been as engaged as you need to be. I will be contacting some of you through email or by phone calls to try to help you get back on track.

I want to make sure that all of you know about the “Open Office Hours” that I am setting up for Asynchronous time.  Each day, except Wednesdays, you will have the opportunity to attend “open office hours” during your scheduled asynchronous hour.  On Wednesday mornings, we usually have teacher PLC meetings, but I will still open up our Zoom meeting if I am not already in another Zoom meeting with other teachers.  Open office hours begin this week.  Here is the updated schedule to attend these meetings.  1st Hour (on B days) and 4th Hour (on A days) can meet from 8:15 – 9:10 am.  2nd Hour (on B days) and 5th Hour (on A days) can meet with me from 9:15 – 10:10 am.  Finally, 6th Hour will have “open office hours” on A days from 10:15 – 11:10 am.  The reason that we will follow a schedule is so that you are not required or asked to be in two meetings at the same time.  However, since I will be using the same Zoom link for all of my classes, please feel free to attend my “open office hours” at any time from 8:15 – 11:10 am each morning.  If for some reason I do not admit you into the Zoom meeting after a few minutes, then please send me an email.  I will start requiring some students attend these meetings to get caught up on their missing assignments.

Remember that today is “A” day, so we will have our scheduled class Zoom meetings for 1st and 2nd Hours during our Synchronous time later this afternoon.  1st Hour from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, and 2nd Hour from 1:05 pm – 2:05 pm.  Attendance will be taken so please make sure that you attend these meetings during your scheduled time.

I look forward to seeing you at our next Zoom meeting!

Good morning students! Today is “A” day, so Hours 4, 5, and 6 are supposed to be working on Asynchronous material this morning. There will be no Zoom meetings this afternoon because it is a half day for students.

I made a mistake in all of my Zoom meetings the past few days. I had mentioned that I thought Monday would be “A” day. I was incorrect. Monday will be “B” day, so Hours 4, 5, and 6 will have Zoom meetings in the afternoon. Hours 1,2, and 3 will have asynchronous time in the morning. I am sorry for any confusion!

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Daily Blog for 9/15/2020

Today is “B” day, so Hours 1,2 and 3 are doing Asynchronous learning this morning. Hours 4, 5, and 6 will be attending Zoom meetings this afternoon. 4th Hour will be from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, 5th Hour from 1:05 pm – 2:05 pm, and 6th Hour from 2:10 pm – 3:10 pm.

I have posted a new assignment for each class which will be due by the next Zoom meeting either on Wednesday (1st and 2nd Hour) or Thursday (Hours 4, 5 and 6).

I hope you are starting to feel comfortable with everything so far. Please email me with any questions or concerns.

This week are going to get started working on the math curriculum in both Asynchronous learning as well as Synchronous learning during our Zoom meetings. I have been updating all classes with new assignments, videos, and notes. Please check Schoology as well as Envision to complete your required tasks. A reminder to all students that the Topic 1 Readiness Assessment is due today. There are still quite a few students who have not completed this task to this point. I will award five points for completing this Topic 1 Readiness Assessment. The Envision program will automatically assign material to you based on the score you received on this task. I encourage you to work on these assigned problems during your asynchronous time in my class. I have also assigned your first regular math assignment for the week. For the Geometry classes, this assignment will be found in Envision. For Algebra 1, your first assignment is posted in Schoology. Any assignment that is assigned through Envision will also have a reminder post in Schoology so that you do not miss it. You will not be able to directly connect to Envision assignments through Schoology at this point. I have also made screencastify videos for our first lesson that I encourage you to watch. These videos explain the new vocabulary terms and walk you through example problems similar to what you experience in your assignments.

Today is “A” day, so 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Hours will have Zoom meetings this afternoon. 1st Hour will be from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, 2nd Hour from 1:05 pm – 2:05 pm, and 3rd Hour from 2:10 pm – 3:10 pm. Hours 4, 5, and 6 should be working on Asynchronous material this morning.

I hope that everything is going well so far. Please contact me when you have any questions. Have a great week!

It is “B” day today. Therefore, we will have Zoom meetings for hours 4, 5, and 6. 4th Hour is from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. 5th Hour is from 1:05 pm – 2:05 pm. 6th Hour will be from 2:10 pm – 3:10 pm. If you are in one of these hours, then please make sure you attend at the scheduled time. Attendance is mandatory.

I will also start to add more things to Envision over the weekend, so you can start looking at the material there. Remember, that all students will need to complete the Topic 1 Readiness assessment which will be added as an assignment in Envision. This pre-assessment will assess what you may already know about the topics in our our first unit. Please do not worry if you do not receive a high score on this assignment. I don’t expect that many of you will because it is before the learning of the material. Envision will automatically assign remedial material for you to work on in order to improve your prior knowledge skills for this unit. I will monitor your progress on these remedial problems when I assess your student engagement for the asynchronous part of our schedule.

I would also like to take the time to honor the victims of the 9/11 terror attacks from 2001. I hope that you all have a great weekend! I am very much looking forward to getting started with our math material next week.

Daily Blog for 9/10/2020

Good morning! I hope that everyone has had a good first couple of days of online learning! All of you should have had a scheduled virtual meeting with each of your classes by now. There are a few of you who were unable to attend the first virtual meeting for my class. If you missed this first meeting, I made some short videos to really highlight some of the things I discussed in our first meeting together. Please email me as soon as you can if you missed the first virtual meeting.

Today is “A” day on the schedule. Once again during the morning asynchronous time, hours 4, 5, and 6 will be working on the Schoology modules set up by the school. During synchronous time today, hours 1, 2, and 3 will meet in the afternoon. 1st Hour will have a Zoom meeting from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. 2nd Hour will have a Zoom meeting from 1:05 pm – 2:05 pm. Please do not miss these meetings because I want to remind you all that attendance will count for each meeting. For today’s Zoom meetings, we will discuss Envision (Savvas Learning or Easy Bridge) which is our new math curriculum for the district. Believe me, I am still learning about the Envision program, so we will all learn as we go through the semester.

I look forward to seeing 1st and 2nd Hours at today’s Zoom meetings. I will see Hours 4, 5, and 6 tomorrow, and we will have pretty much the same discussion. Have a great day today!
