Daily Blog for 4/20/2020

Happy Monday! It is a little cold out this morning, but at least the sun is shining! This is a big week with a lot of new information.

You should have all received some information from the school and the school district in the past few days. The district has adopted a new remote learning plan which was accepted by the county intermediate school district (RESA). The schools have been given specific guidelines to follow in this remote learning plan. We are required to inform the school of student participation of the learning activities. As a result, starting this week, I will be sharing a list of students who have not been active in the online learning activities. The school has developed an MTSS team which is a group of administrators and counselors who will be contacting students and parents directly when they do not participate in the online learning process. Each teacher is supposed to have at least two points of contact with each student every week. A point of contact can be as simple as joining a virtual meeting every week, or joining a meeting during office hours time. A point of contact is also engaging in the online assignments which are posted each week. In short, it is pretty easy to achieve the goal of participating in 75% of the activities.

We have also been given guidelines about the grading policy for this semester. High school students can now be given three options for a grade at the end of the school year. A student can earn an “A” grade if they had a decent grade prior to the shutdown (A, B, or C) and then they participate in at least 75% of the online learning activities. A student can receive a passing grade for the class “G” if they participate in at least 60% of the online learning activities. If a student had a low grade (D or E) prior to the shutdown, then they may be able to go back and raise that part of their grade by making up missing work and/or retaking quizzes or tests from those earlier units. You will need to make arrangements with me about this if you are interested. Please note: a student can receive a failing grade “N” (No Credit) if they chose to participate in less than 60% of the remote learning activities.

Today, I will be adding two new assignments for the Geometry classes. However, I made sure that these new assignments were not over new material. They are assignments very similar to the work from last week. Please go back and look at the videos and assignments from last week to help you complete these assignments. Later in the week, I will be making new screencastify videos to help you better understand how to do this work.

On Tuesday of this week, I will be offering the first Google Meet meeting for my classes. At 12 pm, I will have a Google Meet meeting for hours 1 – 4 (Nickname: Reddeman Geo 1). At 1 pm, I will have a Google Meet meeting for 6th hour (Nickname: Reddeman Geo 2). For my two ASAP Algebra classes, I will have a Google Meet meeting at 2pm (Nickname: Reddeman ASAP). I will also be holding virtual office hours on Thursdays at 11 am. For the office hours, you will again go to Google Meet (Nickname: Reddeman Office). I will email you with more specific information about how to access these meetings.
