What’s 22 to 22?  April 22-May 22….Our next fundraiser, that is!  Each year our school chooses  non-profit organizations that will help improve the livelihoods of many humans around the world and in our community. This year, with your help, we have raised thousands of dollars towards many  great causes.  We will showcase all of our students efforts on Thursday, April 26th @ our Care to the Core event.

Diabetes is a disease that causes your pancreas to stop producing insulin, a hormone that helps provide energy for your body. The cause for type 1 diabetes is still unknown and there is no cure. This disease can lead to complications like blindness, kidney disease and heart disease.  People with type 1 diabetes must test their blood sugar several times a day and take multiple shots of insulin just to stay alive.

Oakman School has partnered up with JDRF Kids For A Cure (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) to begin a fundraiser at our school.  There are two additional schools running the same fundraiser:) Our goal is to raise $500 dollars. The class that raises the most money will have a choice between a pizza party or an ice cream party .  All students who donate will get a colored shoe and have their name written on it.  You can display them on the wall across from the art room. The top 5 students in the school who raise the most money will get a prize from JDRF!

On Monday April 22nd, we will have the fundraiser kickoff . A representative from JDRF will come in to  talk about the fundraiser and tell our students a little bit about diabetes. Again, the fundraiser  will run April 22nd -May 22nd. Look in folders TODAY for a parent letter that explains the fundraiser.

Kindergarten Spelling Week of April 22nd Test on FRIDAY, April 26th! This week’s spelling words are: come yes no mug rug Plus 2 other words from the –ug family (such as hug, bug, jug, dug, smug, etc.) **Students will also have 2 *BONUS*– 1 dictated sentence (write sentence teacher says aloud) and 1 sentence of their own (with a spelling word in it). *BONUS* will only be given if they have all parts of a sentence from our checklist— Capital letter at the beginning, written neatly on the lines—sight words spelled correctly, finger spaces between words, AND punctuation at the end of the sentence (. ? !). Thank you for practicing spelling words EACH NIGHT by doing daily assignments (inside cover) in spelling notebooks! THURSDAY IS PRACTICE SPELLING WORDS IN A SENTENCE to be ready for the *BONUS* POINTS!!!! 1. Oakman Folder-Sign and return behavior calendar for APRIL!!  Practice first 50 sight words for TEST NEXT FRIDAY!!–see sheet in folders
2.Reading/Math Bag-Please take 15 minutes to “read” each night and practice sight words… NEW books for reading pictures, listening and asking/answering questions (use bookmark), finding sight words, etc. were given in see through reading bag. 

** All sight words on ring are: I, the, can, see, like, to, look, at, come, and, a, we, go, my, in, is, has, for, are, here, you, dog, up, on, have, said, it, she, me, went, make, they, play, no, big, down and 2 NEW sight words yes and want.

3.READING GROUP BAG—> , re-read old books for fluency AND read NEW book 3 times remembering to point to each word as you read AND extend to asking questions such as: “Find a sight word on this page. Point to word that starts with the /s/ sound. ETC.”  Please keep alphabet linking chart and on back NEW consonants blends and digraphs in their bag– this is to help with reading and writing during reading groups and can be practiced at home as part of 15 minutes of reading each night!

4. Math Module 4 NEW homework workbook-lesson 24, helper on page 95 and homework page 97.

5. Spelling Notebook– spelling words will be passed out on Monday.

We will have a small classroom party to celebrate Spring on Thursday afternoon.  Please send in $2.00 for a special snack, prizes, and a math game that we will be playing.  The party will begin at 1:30 and parents are invited to come if you would like.
