Homework & Reminders 1-30-20

  1. Oakman Folder- sign and return behavior calendar for JANUARY!! See papers from today including card for ZEARN LOG IN… please review them and take them out of folders (keep at home). Only paper left in folder should be behavior calendar and the NWEA scores grid and goals that are taped inside. Thank you! PLEASE TAKE OUT ZEARN LOG IN CARD at KEEP at home in a safe place (on refrigerator, by computer, etc.) so you can practice at home!!

ZEARN is a great way to EXTEND math learning at home as students can progress through the lessons and even begin 1st grade math concepts <— this is a great fun way to practice math skills beyond kindergarten and get above grade-level scores on NWEA!!!!!

  1. Reading bag- 35 TOTAL NEW SIGHT WORDS ARE IN THEIR BAGS one, little, play, me, here, am, do, not, who, with— I, like, the, see, we, go, can, she, a, at, is, was, will, he, has, on, in, and, you, up, look, it, my, to, and dog. Practice each night to MEMORIZE THESE WORDS!* Practice spelling the words if your child can read them. Spelling will start next week!! (A letter will be sent home with words on Monday!!!)
  2. READING GROUP BAG — READ everyday and focus on fluency and comprehension. *If your child did not get a new book, focus on RETELLING— new books will not be given everyday so more focus can be on comprehension. To move UP reading levels students need to be able to read the words accurately and COMPREHEND (understand what I read). After reading books, please practice using the handout for the “retelling rope” see picture below!! (Don’t forget to ask your child– what was your favorite part of the story and WHY? or what did this story remind you of?)

4. Math Homework-MODULE 3 Lesson 32 Our last lesson in module 3 on page 325 (homework helper is on page 323). Tomorrow I will be one-on-one testing for the end of the module. We will start Module 4 on Monday.

NO NEW HOMEWORK ASSIGNED IN MATH BOOK- the book should be finished!! check if you missed any pages in the WHOLE BOOK and I will collect/check them tomorrow. New homework books for MODULE 4 will be sent home on MONDAY! 🙂

5. Spelling Notebook:

  • Thursday: Fun Sentences!
    • Write a sentence using one spelling word in each sentence. Make sure to include Capitals, spaces and punctuation!
    • ****STUDENTS will have a BONUS sentence on their spelling test. To earn this BONUS point the sentence with be perfect (and include a word from the -at word family!!) ****

***Test day is tomorrow!!! Letter formation MUST be correct and neat to get full points. Also only “I” should be uppercase.

Spelling started this week!! Please make sure to practice daily assignments in NEW black spelling homework notebook each night! This week we have the sight words: a,the, I, and words from the -at word family pattern, such as cat, hat, bat, mat, sat, fat, etc.

Kindergarten Homework!

     Spelling Each Day

  • Monday: Rainbow Spelling!
    • Write each spelling word in pencil. Now use a crayon to trace each word in that color. Pick another color and repeat.
  • Tuesday: Consonants/Vowels!
    • Write each spelling word using one color for consonants and another color for vowels. Repeat 2 times.
  • Wednesday: Building Words!
    • Write each spelling word one letter at a time, for example:

Student Goals for the end of kindergarten!

In student folders you will notice a new paper taped inside (keep taped in folder!!). Please discuss with your child these goals and talk about what they can do each day so that their reading and math goals can be met by the end of kindergarten!!! We talk daily at school about being ready for 1st grade and how it is important to learn so we can meet our goals and improve, learn, grow, and reach our dreams!!! Please encourage your child daily as well to work hard so they can do whatever they desire for their future career as well!! “DREAM BIG!!!” 🙂

Below is the template you will see inside your child’s folder. Please talk about these goals with them tonight and refer back to them often.

My reading goal is to read and comprehend a level _____ book by the end of kindergarten.

Homework and Reminders 1-23-20

We are finished with NWEA for winter the scores are taped on the left hand side of the folders. I am so proud of each and every student. Scores from today are inside their folders and a FULL report will be sent home in a couple of weeks (once the whole district is finished testing). We will test one more time in the spring. Report cards will be coming home soon, sign the envelope and return to school. Keep the report card and the papers inside, just return the envelope signed.

  2. READING GROUP BAG — 4-6 BOOKS are in bags to keep reading over break– most are review… make sure to fill in reading logs each day!!!! (Also can you login code and password to read/listen to more books on the computer) *students still have several books to review as we will be doing some testing over letters, sounds, and sight words this week to determine possible NEW reading groups and levels. NEW BOOKS WILL BE SENT HOME TOMORROW!!

***IF YOU HAVE FLUENCY DOWN, PARENTS PLEASE EXTEND the reading by asking questions such as:

Find the WORD “the” on this page.
What LETTER/SOUND do you see/hear at the beginning of the WORD?
What LETTER/SOUND do you see/hear at the middle of the WORD?
What LETTER/SOUND do you see/hear at the end of the WORD?
After reading, can you RETELL what happened?? What happened in the beginning, middle, and end?
