Homework & Reminders 9/4/14

Tonight’s Homework:

1. Practice writing their first and last name on handwriting paper.  Please trace first then try on your own.  We are working on capital letter at the BEGINNING of FIRST and LAST name and having a finger space in between.  It is so important that they are able to write their name at school so this will be the homework assignment for the rest of this week and next.  To make it different, you can do “rainbow writing.”  Write with a pencil then crayon, marker, or fancy pen- please ecourage your child to make this fun for them.  We always say, “try your best!” in kindergarten- the most important thing is to TRY!

2. Emergency form MUST be turned in!!!! We need to be able to reach you if something happens to your child!  Thank you!!  Lunch applications need to be turned in as well!!!

Reminders

1. It will be HOT again tomorrow, please send a water bottle with your child.  Please write their name on the bottle if possible.

2, Please bring in snack for the class once or twice a month (right now we have AM and PM snack).   We do snack as a class so please bring enough for 30 students, for example 2 boxes of Cheese-Its.  Please send in healthy snacks- no cookies or candy.  Fruit and vegetables, cheese sticks, yogurt are great too!  Crackers, goldfish, pretzels are nice as well because we can easily store them.

Thank you for your support!  We are off to a great start in Kindergarten!!!!!

Welcome to Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten,

Our names are LeAnn Sulecki and Michelle Rawson.  We are the Kindergarten teachers here at Oakman Elementary School.  We hope this letter will help answer a few questions you might have.  A more detailed letter explaining how we do, what we do, will be sent home in the near future.

The most important thing we need from you, starting today, is THE phone number we can reach mom or dad at during the day.  Kindergarteners get sick, have accidents, etc… and me MUST be able to reach a parent or guardian!!  Please, Check the phone number on our class list and make sure it is the number at which you can be reached.

The first day of school is a big day for you and your child.  We both believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success.  Throughout the year, we will communicate with you as much as possible through several ways.  There will be an Open House, Parent/Teacher conferences, phone calls, and notes such as this.  The most important method of communication is through our school Blog.  We post the Common Core State Standards and lesson plans that we will be teaching every Monday and post the homework assignments each day along with upcoming events, and other information you will find helpful.  Please feel free to comment or ask questions on our blogs or call the school at 827-6500 and leave a message with Ms. Rose.  We will call you back as soon as we can.

Your child’s regular and prompt attendance is crucial to his/her success. We can’t emphasis this point enough.  Most kindergarten learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates.  Therefore, it is important for your child to be present and on time each and every day.  Please help your child understand how important school attendance is, unless they are sick or there is an emergency.  If your child must be absent or late, please call the school at 827-6500 and let Ms. Rose know.

We will be having a small snack each day.  We understand that it’s difficult to get kids to eat a proper breakfast some mornings and that all day kindergarten is a big change for them so we will have a morning and afternoon snack for the first few weeks of school.  Towards the end of the Fall season, we will transition to only 1 snack each day.  Please send in some healthy snacks for around 30 students at the beginning of each month, or on one day during the month.  Some examples of healthy snacks include: pretzels, graham crackers, Goldfish crackers, fruit, vegetables, yogurt, cheese, crackers, etc…  Please do not send in any sugary snacks such as cookies or candy.

Your son/daughter will need to bring a backpack to school each and every day.  It will be for carrying their homework folder, Reading/book bag and Math bag.  One side of the homework folder is for papers that stay home and the other side is for papers you need to fill out and send back to school and students’ homework papers.

Recommended Supply List:

Glue Sticks (please no bottles of glue)

Kleenex (LOTS!)

Hand Sanitizer

Baby Wipes

Ziploc Bags (sandwich, quart and gallon sizes)

Headphones for using with the computers.  (They have them at the dollar store in various styles for your child to choose.)

Clorox Wipes

We just want to say that we are very excited to begin working together with you to make this year a great start to your child’s school career!  Please, feel free to ask us about anything you need/want to know and let’s have a great 2014-2015 school year!

Sincerely,

Michelle Rawson

Notes and Homework 6/9/14

Dear Parents,

Students need to bring NOTHING to school starting Monday, June 9th. The only thing they should bring is their lunch, lunch money or money for snacks they sell at lunchtime. If your child still has a bag with a handle that belongs to the school, please send that in and I will collect it and give them a Ziplock bag. It’s that time of the year where we collect stuff that the school bought and get ready for next year.

No more spelling tests this year.

No more homework this year.

June 10th is our Kindergarten End of the Year celebration. The kids have been working on some songs to sing for the parents, we will give each child a certificate, and we will have some sweets as we talk about completing a successful year in Kindergarten. We will meet in the cafeteria at 10;00.

June 12th is the last day of school. It is also a half day. We will start at our usual time (breakfast at 8:10 and line up outside at 8:35) and end at 11:40.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 827-6500.

Thank you,

Ms. Nehme/Mrs. Rawson
