Today at Oakman we had the Arab American Pharmacist Association (AAPA) come in from Wayne State University to speak to the entire elementary. They presented the Michigan Antibiotic Resistance Reduction Coalition (MARR) to our students. The presentation included hands on activities about viruses and good/bad bacteria. The medical and pharmacy students also used interactive activities such as GloGerm with UV light to show students how bacteria can be transmitted from person to person through handshakes. The students finished off with a fun pre and post quiz and trivia. The students had a great time!

  2. Reading Bag- practice BLENDS and sight words (NEW words this week: “him” and “his”)  ***Make sure you LISTEN TO READING on MYON for at least 20 MINUTES, top 3 students with the MOST minutes at the end of the month WIN LUNCH WITH THE TEACHER!!!!  KEEP READING!!!!!
  3. Math Bag- practice addition and subtraction with objects  *MATH WORKBOOK PAGE 145-146-147-148… put in folders for me to Check TOMORROW!!!
  4. Spelling Notebook- write your spelling words in a sentence.  TEST TOMORROW!!

TOMORROW 99.5 country radio is coming to read to kindergarten and preschool— wear your jeans and flannel shirts, boots and cowboy hats and pig-tails!!!  They will be here at 11:45 to read to us in Mrs. Fowler’s room- parents are welcome to come see this special guest!!!!!  Dearborn Schools HR and the radio station promotion team with be here!!!!  Get excited!!!!!

2. Reading bag- practice new BLENDS chart- blends are two letters that work together! Practice all sight words, new this week “him” and “his”

3. Math bag- practice addition and subtraction using objects

4.  Spelling notebook: write words 3 times each

Reminders:

I will be out tomorrow at a training all day. Please wear cowboy and cowgirl clothes (flannel shirts, boots, cowboy hats, bandanas, etc.) for our special visit from the country RADIO station on Wednesday!

Homework & Reminders 3-17-17

Thank you to Hussien’s mom and Ali’s mom for volunteering in the classroom today!  We especially need help during Daily 5 time (9:15-11:00).  Let me know if you would like to help!  Even if it’s only 30 minutes, its a BIG help!  THANK YOU in advance!! 🙂

  1. Folder- sign behavior calendar  **MATH WORKBOOK PAGE 135-136, SUBTRACTION!!!!!  Rip out and put in folder for me to check tomorrow!  ***I only had a few students do this!!!
  2. Reading bag- Practice sight words… 2 NEW words added today for this week “was” and “has”— read 20 minutes on MYON!!! 3 students with the most minutes at the end of the month WIN LUNCH WITH THE TEACHER!!!! ***Students also learned how to play sight word BINGO today and got to take home their paper to play at home and practice their sight words!!!
  3. Math bag- we are starting SUBTRACTION (take away)!!   Make a picture/story of a problem on paper to share with the class.  For example, I had 5 cookies and my sister ate 2.  How many cookies do I have left?  Students got a new paper to practice ADDITION and SUBTRACTION (2 sides) in their math bags today… use coins, cereal, Cherrios, goldfish, etc. to practice + (put together) and – (take away)!!
