Homework & Reminders 12-13-18

1. Oakman Folder-Sign and return behavior calendar for DECEMBER!!— we took a practice NWEA test for reading today and students compared their score to when we took it last week… almost everyone went up, remembering to take their time and listen carefully to each question and answer choices before choosing their final answer— their scores are on a yellow post-it!  Next week we will take math and see if we can improve our scores.. please reinforce the importance of this test with your child and praise them for going up in score!!! The test was out of 30 points.  THANK YOU!!!

2. Reading/Math Bag-Please take 15 minutes to “read” each night and practice sight words ***NEW BOOKS IN BAGS AND NEW SIGHT WORD: have

** All sight words on ring are: I, the, can, see, like, to, look, at, come, and, a, we, go, my, in, is, has, for, are, here, you, dog, up, on AND today’s new word “have”. ***ALL should be memorized for reading and some should be able to spell on own.

3. READING GROUP BAG—> read NEW black and white book 3 times remembering to point to each word as you read AND extend to asking questions such as: “Find a sight word on this page. Point to word that starts with the /s/ sound. ETC.”

Sign reading log for new books! 

4. Math- Module 3, Lesson 3.  Review homework helper on page 207.  Do homework page 209.

Looking Ahead to next week…

Thursday, December 20th will be a parent meeting for Kindergarten at 2:30 in the classroom– we will talk about NWEA and learning activities to do over the break with your child, especially for math!

Friday, December 21 will be our classroom holiday party in the morning— parents are invited and encouraged to come have breakfast with us in the classroom and do some holiday crafts and games.  It will be from 9:00-10:30. See sign up sheet posted in the hallway!!

The school sing along will be Friday, December 21 at 2:00 in the GYM.

Fun Winter Activity for Dearborn Residents– this is a great event!! hope to see you!!

Winterfest Market is a great community events with over 20 vendors at each location—

The West Dearborn location will have vendors located in a heated tent in the parking lot at West Village Commons Plaza, 22223 Michigan Ave.

The East Dearborn location will have vendors inside at City Hall ArtSpace Lofts Connector, 13615 Michigan Ave.

There will be:
*Free bounce house for all the kids!
*Henry Ford College Ice Sculptures
*Live entertainment: East- Telephone9 and West- Aj Lynn
*Pebble the Clown will be offering face painting- West from 10am to 12:30pmand in the East from 1:30pm to 4pm.
*Santa, Mrs.Claus and a couple of his reindeer will be landing. Photos are free and will be posted online for your use and download. (Print-outs are not available.)
West from 11am to 1pm. East from 2pm-4pm.

Today we talked about WORDS that have a long i sound like, pie, bike, dime, tire, bride etc.  Please find 3-5 items at home that have the long i sound in the WORD and put them in this bag for your child to share in class tomorrow (Thursday, December 13th).  Thank you!

What’s Happening this Week?

Greetings Oakman Families,

On Saturday our FLL Jr. team competed at Whitmore Lake High School. Oakman’s teams were recognized for two categories and as a whole group. We are very proud of our student’s dedication and hard work. We are also very appreciative of the support of our parents and teachers.  WAY TO GO OAKMAN FLL JUNIORS!

Monday: Welcome back

Tuesday:
