Tonight’s Homework:
1. Continue to work on writing first and last names on handwriting paper, Please help students form letters correctly (they should START at the Dot).
2. READING BAGS- like folders– these bags with be sent home EVERYDAY and need to be returned EVERYDAY. In their reading bags, they have an ABC chart to practice their letters and sounds. You can play lots of “games” with this chart beside pointing at the letters while singing the ABC song. For example, try letters out of order (this is how they will be tested)… “where is the P.” “What starts with a P?” (pig) “Can you think of anything else that starts with a /p/ sound?” (pink, panda, etc.) We also practice our letters and sounds with this song today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvPo7aEQMxg. If link does not work, go to YouTube and type in: ABC Sound Clues with Who Let the Letters Out by Dr. Jean. I told them this song can even be played on most phones if they cannot do it on a computer. They are VERY excited to show you this song and the “movements” we learned with it!!
Reminders:
1. Next week, there with be a PTA MEMBERSHIP DRIVE! Each child is to register and send in $8 to join. No volunteering needed. Please support your PTA so we can buy much needed supplies for the children throughout the year.
2. Wednesday, September 10th is a LATE START. School begins at 9:40am. There will be a school store at 3:30.
3. Friday, September 12th is the 1st “Principals Corner” Parent Meeting @ 8:50 am & PTA News. ALL Parents are welcome to attend. Please meet in cafeteria at 8:50am. There will be a pizza sale at 3:30.
***Please continue to send in water bottles for students to keep on their desk so they can stay hydrated throughout the day. Please send in supplies if you have not done so already. Students will start using HEADPHONES soon so please make sure to send those in so they have them in their reading basket for computer and ipad use.
***This weekend if you are grocery shopping, PLEASE buy a class snack to send in with your child. We have a morning and afternoon snack together in kindergarten. This means all students are offered the class snack. Some ideas of healthy snacks to send are Graham crackers, goldfish, animal crackers, pretzels, apple slices, string cheese, etc. Please send enough for 30 students, so 2 boxes of crackers or 1 large bag of pretzels, etc. Students can bring their own snack from home if they do not like what we are having, but ALL students will be offered group snack so ALL families are asked to bring a class snack at least once a month. If you can send in a group snack twice a month, that will be help as we are having 2 snacks the first month or two of school. (Later in the school year, morning snack will be eliminated as we have early lunch (11:30).
THANKS for a great first week of school! have a fun, safe weekend and I look forward to seeing you on Monday! **We will be asking next week that parents stay outside and do not enter the building so we can fully establish our morning routine. Thanks in advance for your help with this.
