Welcome to Kindergarten, 9-3-13
Our names are LeAnn Sulecki and Michelle Rawson. We are the Kindergarten teachers here at OakmanElementary School. We hope this letter will help answer a few questions you might have. A more detailed letter explaining how we do, what we do, will be sent home in the near future.
The most important thing we need from you, starting today, is THE phone number we can reach mom or dad at during the day. Kindergarteners get sick, have accidents, etc… and me MUST be able to reach a parent or guardian!! Please, Check the phone number on our class list and make sure it is the number at which you can be reached.
The first day of school is a big day for you and your child. We both believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for maximum school success. Throughout the year, we will communicate with you as much as possible through several ways. There will be an Open House, Parent/Teacher conferences, phone calls, and notes such as this. The most important method of communication is through our school Blog. We post the Common Core State Standards that we will be teaching each week and every day we will post the homework assignments, upcoming events, and other information you will find helpful. Please feel free to comment or ask questions on our blogs or call the school at 827-6500 and leave a message with Ms. Rose. We will call you back as soon as we can.
Your child’s regular and prompt attendance is crucial to his/her success. I can’t emphasis this point enough. Most kindergarten learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates. Therefore, it is important for your child to be present and on time each and every day. Please help your child understand how important school attendance is, unless they are sick or there is an emergency. If your child must be absent or late, please call the school at 827-6500 and let Ms. Rose know.
We will be having a small snack each morning. We understand that it’s difficult to get kids to eat a proper breakfast some mornings and that all day kindergarten is a big change for them. Please send in some healthy snacks for around 30 students at the beginning of each month, or on one day during the month. Some examples of healthy snacks include: pretzels, graham crackers, Goldfish crackers, fruit, vegetables, yogurt, cheese, crackers, etc… Please do not send in any sugary snacks. Also, students may bring in a water bottle with a lid and their name on it to keep at their desk during the day. This helps eliminate leaving the classroom for water breaks.
Your son/daughter will need to bring a backpack each and every day. It will have a homework folder in it. One side of the folder is for papers that stay home and the other side is for papers you need to fill out and send back to school. This will be especially important now, at the beginning of this year.
We just want to say that we are very excited to begin working together with you to make this year a great start to your child’s school career! Please, feel free to ask us about anything you need/want to know and let’s have a great 2013-2014 school year!!
Sincerely,
Michelle Rawson
