Winter Wear
Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately each day. It is always a good idea for each student to bring a sweater or sweatshirt since it is cold out. This will help if your child becomes cold during the day. All students go out for recess at lunch as well as once in the morning and once in the afternoon on days when it is not too cold, snowing, or raining. When the students go out for recess they need a coat, gloves, and a hat. If there is snow on the ground students can also wear snow pants and boots. Student do go outside unless there are extreme temperatures (feels like 20 degrees below). Thank you for helping to keep your child dressed for the weather.
PTA Holiday Shop
Holiday shopping for the students will be December 10, 11, and 12. All items are $2.00 each. Please watch for a flyer coming home.
Parents can check grades, report absences via app
Dearborn Public School parents can now report their child’s absences and check student grades, attendance and more from the convenience of their phone or tablet.
Parents can download the Q Parent Connection app via Google Play or iTunes and set it up with the same ID number and password they use for Parent Connection online. Q Parent Connection, via computer or the app, allows parents and guardians to check their child’s attendance and grades as that information is entered at the school. Adults can also look at their child’s food service balances, if children opt to buy items instead of or in addition to the free lunch and breakfast.
New with the app is the option for a parent to report a child absent without calling the school office.
“We know that increasingly parents are using phones, instead of computers, to do everyday functions from checking the weather to managing their finances,” said Troy Patterson, Dearborn Public Schools director of technology and media services. “This app allows them to use their phone to do the important job of staying in touch with their child’s school, from making sure homework is turned in to reporting absences.”
Students can also access information such as grades and attendance through the Q Student Connection app, which provides the same information as their online Q Student Connection account. Students cannot report their own absences.
The District website has the technical details for setting up Q Parent Connection. If a parent or guardian needs a Parent Connection login, they should call the District at (313) 827-3030.
UNICEF
Our UNICEF “Trick to Treat” collection was a great success. Together we raised $11.50! This money will be used to provide children in need with water, food, and fleece blankets. Thank you all!
No School
School will be closed Wednesday November 27-November 29. School reopens Monday, December 2nd.
Raz Kids
We have been given access to Kids A-Z through Learning A-Z’s website created for students. Log in cards were glued into student’s planners this morning and students have practiced in class how to login. After your child logs in, each website we have subscribed to is shown. Your child can work on assignment, read leveled text in the book room, or use other resources for reading and writing practice.
ENJOY!
Success!
Parents,
I had to inform you of how WONDERFUL the class did this week on their spelling test. 70% of the students received a passing grade this week. This great success comes from us (you all and I) working together as a team for each child’s success. I cannot thank you enough for all the support you give your child and in turn give me.
Thank you!
Pajama Day
This week our school has been supporting the “Battle Against Hunger” food drive initiate. As a school, we understand the importance of supporting those in need and giving back to the community. To increase participation in this great cause, we will have a pajama day tomorrow (Friday, November 22). In order to participate in pajama day, we are asking for each child to bring at least two canned or boxed non perishable food items to school for donation.
