Happy Friday!

Just a quick update. The children have continued to work on rules this week. They have done a wonderful job! If all goes well, the plan is to start both group and individualized lessons next week. We are pleased with how well they have been following rules.

Today we have an assembly at 9. It is about bullying. Please continue to make sure your child is at school on time, otherwise you will have to walk your child to the gym to meet us. We sure appreciate how punctual everyone has been!

Have you joined the P.T.A. yet? They sponsor many things such as the assembly today. We are hoping to have the best enrollment this year. A lot of times, preschool has no respresentation because parents may think it will require volunteering a lot of time or attending meetings. While that would be great, simply joining and paying the membership also helps. Please consider joining. We have extra forms if you misplaced the one you received.

Have a great weekend!

Today your child will be bringing home a sheet titled “All About Me!” This sheet will be used in our Star of the Week book. Every child will get a week to be the star. During that week, your child may bring a show and tell everyday, be line leader, and get all the special jobs in our classroom. They also bring in a poster with pictures of their lives, family, special occasions etc. They also will be bringing home the Star of the Week book which they can keep at home for a week. They love to share pictures and information about their classmates at home. Please make sure you fill out the sheet and turn in no later than next Friday, September 14. Thank you!

REMINDERS

I hope everyone has enjoyed this long holiday weekend!  Our first week went well and I am sure this upcoming week will too.

Please remember to bring in rest items for your child tomorrow.  We will send them back on Friday so you can launder them.  Also, please make sure your child has a water bottle with their name on it.  It is supposed to be a hot week ahead, and we encourage the children to keep hydrated.  If they go through all the water, they can refill at the water fountain.  Many children are taking water bottles to lunch as opposed to sugary juices, which is great.

Also please send in your money for P.T.A. membership as soon as possible.  Even if you can not volunteer, it is important that everyone joins.  P.T.A. sponsors many events throughout the school year.  This includes assemblies, parties, book fairs, and items that are of great benefit to our classroom.  Every child benefits from P.T.A. sponsored events.

We would also like to thank everyone for being on time this week.  It is so nice not to have a classroom disrupted with people coming in late.  This is going to be a great year!

P.T.A.

Your child will be bringing home papers today from the P.T.A.  Please consider joining this organization since they do so much for the children in our school.  It is always nice to have some Preschool representation as well.  If you can not volunteer or attend the meetings, please consider at least having a membership.

Good Afternoon!

We are very pleased with how the last day and a half has gone.  The children seem like they are getting adjusted.  Currently, we are spending time getting to know each other, going over class rules, cafeteria behavior, and playground rules.  This is very important in a classroom. If we did not spend time stressing these things we could have a chaotic year for all of us.  Our goal is to set a positive tone in our classroom, where the children are introduced to things slowly.  In a Montessori classroom shelves start out empty, and as new work is introduced the shelves begin to fill up. This way the children also know how to respect the Montessori materials by using them properly.  There is no magic timeline as to when we will be ready to work off the shelves, or work with the teachers. It always depends on how the children respond and if they have mastered the rules.  We have had a great start so far with children becoming acclimated.

Thank you to everyone that has brought in supplies.  We still have several children who do not have an extra change of clothing or rest time items.  Please send these items in as soon as you can, please.  Also we need paper work immediately.  We understand if your child has an upcoming physical, however, there is other paper work we will need now.

We do NOT have school this Friday or Monday due to the Labor Day weekend.

Have a great evening!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Thank you to everyone that came to our Parent Orientation meeting.  It was nice to see old faces and meet our new families.  The packets we usually give at the meeting will be ready soon.  We apologize that they were not ready, but with our floor being tiled, we did not have access to the room or computer.

Tomorrow is the first day of school.  It is a half day.  Your child must be picked up no later than 11:45.  Please park in the lot near the playground.  You must pull into a spot. DO NOT leave your car blocking the driveway or other cars.  We share the lot with K/1 and they do curbside pick up.  Preschoolers must be signed in and out every day, so you must park in a spot and meet us by the entrance.  No one will be allowed in before 8:35. If your child is having a hard time separating from you, the best thing you can do is leave quickly.  The more parents linger the harder it gets for both you and the child. In our experience as soon as the parents are back in their car, the child has calmed down. Please help us make this transition for all easy.

It is important that your paperwork be turned in tomorrow, especially the Child Information paper must be filled out completely.  Please do not leave any lines blank.  This information is used to contact you, or if an emergency were to arise.  The State requires that all lines be completed.

Also, of extreme importance is letting us know about peanut or tree nut allergies.  If your child has a nut allergy, an epi pen is required along with a doctor’s note.  As of yet, we know of no allergies.  If we do have one, I will make sure everyone is informed not to bring in snack with nuts or snack that is manufactured in a facility where there are nut products.

Tuesday will be a full day.  The state requires that children of this age have a one hour rest time.  Please bring in a beach towel, sheet, or something for your child to use during rest time.  Make sure it is in a bag (the super large zip locks work great) with your child’s name on it.  NO PILLOWS OR STUFFED ANIMALS PLEASE. Rest time items will be sent home every Friday so that you can launder them.  You will also need to label your child’s back pack, lunch box, water bottle,  and a bag with emergency clothes in them.  When you bring the supplies in, do not label them.  These supplies are shared in our classroom.  Starting Tuesday, your child will need to be picked up no later than 3:35.  If picked up later you will be charged a fee. We have not had issues with charging people in the past and don’t anticipate it this year.  The fee gets quite hefty as minutes accumulate.

Everyone should sign up for snack 10 times during the school year.  The sign up sheet is now posted on our parent information board outside of our classroom.  Please make sure one of your snack days is your child’s birthday if it falls during the school year.  We will allow cupcakes or cookies ONLY ON a birthday, if there is no nut allergies.  Otherwise make sure you are providing a healthy snack for 18 children.  Some examples are fruits, vegetables and dips, cheese and crackers, and yogurt.  We have lots of applesauce to start the year, so no applesauce please.  Your child should also have a water bottle with their name on it.  They are free to have access to water bottles all day.  We encourage the children to drink lots of water especially during the hot days.

This coming Friday, August 31 and Monday, September 3 there will be NO SCHOOL due to Labor Day weekend.

Finally, if you have a spouse, grandparent, or someone else that will need to keep informed of what is happening in our classroom, please have them sign up for my blog. The blog is the way we communicate with families with all the important information.

Looking forward to a great school year with all of you!  Have a Happy Sunday!

Good Morning! Just a reminder that our Parent Orientation is tonight in the cafeteria at 5:30. We are happy to say that our room has been tiled in the last week. We have been wanting tile for a long time as I know some of you also have. However, chances are we can not get in to see it. They are still putting wax on it. Also I know I mentioned that you can bring in supplies tonight, but if you could hold off that would be great. Since we can’t get into the room there is no place to store the supplies. Paperwork is fine if you have it. Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight!

I have received emails inquiring about the suggested school supply list. It was in your packet that you received in the Spring. In case you may have misplaced it, here it is again: *2 boxes facial tissue *1 box crayons (16 pack) *5 glue sticks (or one package) *1 box gallon sized zip lock bags *2 (2) pocket folders (plain colors and plastic folders only not paper) *1 package of Ticonderoga pencils *1 package of computer paper * 1 package of napkins * 2 packages of play-doh * 1 box (8-10) thin markers As always if you have any questions, feel free to email me. Enjoy your evening!
