Hello

If you did not get a chance to donate items at the beginning of the school year, here is your chance again. We have a half a year left and are in desperate need of the following items: *facial tissue *napkins for snack *printer paper *dispenser scotch tape.  We would appreciate any donations especially if you did not do it earlier. Thanks!

In March we will be studying Community Helpers. If you or a family member would like to come in and talk about your occupation that would be great. Books and other visual aids help the children understand different jobs. It can be very simple. As always, the children love having family volunteer in the classroom. Please let me know if you are interested in doing this.

Have a great day!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thank you all so much for the chocolates, flowers, and gifts that we received today. Once again you make us feel so appreciated. You are always so wonderful to us!

We hope that you enjoy the mid winter break. We will see you back in school on Tuesday, February 19. Stay safe and warm!

Teacher Of The Year Nominations

It’s time for students to nominate their favorite Dearborn Public Schools teacher for the 2019 Alberta Muirhead Teacher of the Year Students’ Choice Award, sponsored by the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce, and presented by LaFontaine Automotive Group.  The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, March 8, 2019 at 5 pm.  An online nomination form is available at https://bit.ly/DbnTeacher2019 or the paper version of the form can be printed and submitted.

Printed nomination forms also may be picked up at any Dearborn public school and the District’s Administration Office, 18700 Audette.  They can be dropped off or mailed to the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce, 22100 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, MI 48124 or faxed to (313) 584-9818. Adults may assist students in completing nominations when necessary, but no more than two teachers can be nominated per student.

Students may nominate any new or veteran teachers whom they feel has made outstanding contributions to the teaching profession.  Pre-K through second grade students are asked to describe how their teacher makes learning fun. Students in this category can include a nice drawing, if they wish, but it will not be part of the selection process.  Third through fifth grade students must describe how their teacher has created a classroom where learning is positive and fun.  Middle school students (grades 6-8) are asked to explain how their teacher connects classroom learning with everyday life.  Students in high school must describe how their teacher is preparing them to be college and career ready.

“Nominating a teacher for this award is an outstanding way for students to show their teachers how much they appreciate and value the job they are doing in the classroom and the positive impact they have on their lives. We have so many excellent teachers deserving of this recognition, and I hope many of our students will take a few moments to nominate their favorite teacher,” commented Dearborn Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Glenn Maleyko.

Applications will be assessed on the quality of the nomination, not on the number received. Award judges are members of the Dearborn Chamber Education Committee and are not provided with the teachers’ names.  One winner from each category will be announced at a special ceremony being held at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center on Thursday, April 25, at 4:30 p.m.

Teachers selected to receive the Teacher of Year Award are being recognized as positive role models who consistently provide unique, productive, positive classroom experiences. Teachers selected receive a $1,000 cash prize and a glass award commemorating their achievement.  They also will join a select group of Dearborn teachers who have been recognized by the community for their dedication and passion for teaching.

“I want to thank the Chamber of Commerce and all the sponsors for once again providing this event,” Maleyko added. “Our district is very fortunate to have so many great community partners.”

Good Morning!

Reminders:

We have a half day this Thursday, February 14. Please pick up your child no later than 11:45. We will be celebrating Valentine’s day on this day. Please send in 18 signed valentines for your child to pass out. Have your child sign their own valentine, since this is good penmanship practice. If you wish to send in a treat that the other children can take home that is fine too. There will be NO SCHOOL on Friday, February 15 and Monday, February 18 for mid winter break.

As always keep an eye on weather reports, with this crazy Michigan weather.

Have a great day!

Good Morning

I hope everyone enjoys this warmer day. Let’s hope we can make it through the whole week this week. I, for one, need to be in my routine!

Wednesday is a late start. As always, this is a choice, and no one will be marked tardy for that day.

Friday, Scholastic Book Club orders are due.

Next week, we will be in school Monday, February 11-Wednesday, February 13 all day. Thursday, February 14 is a half day. Your child must be picked up by 11:45. This is also Valentine’s Day. We will be doing a quick Valentine project with the children on that day. Your child may bring in Valentines. Please make sure there are 18. Please have your child sign each Valentine, and do not write names on envelopes. This is a good time for your child to practice writing their name. Try not to do it for them. You may also send in a treat for each child, but it is not necessary.

Have a good Monday, and let’s hope for a full week of school this week!

Good Morning

I hope everyone was cozy on our day off yesterday. There are many forms of communication the district has when school is closed. The district sends out robo calls, texts, and emails. You can also check your local news to see if our district is listed.

Reminder: Parents must wait with their children outside if the weather is 20 degrees and above. This is district policy. We will greet the children at 8:35 a.m. Please understand this is also for security purposes. Thank you for your cooperation.

Have a great Thursday!
