Kindergarten
Spelling words – “ap” family cap, map, tap sight words – the, me, we, see
Writing – We will finish up on opinion writing and move into informational writing later in the week. We will learn how to write an “How To” informational piece.
Reading – I am through testing students in reading and I am very pleased with the progress Kindergartners have made in reading. Keep it up! We will start reading groups and book bags will go home during the week.
Math – students will write addition and subtraction number stories, practice writing two digit numbers, use ordinal terms in daily events and practicing math facts with winter math fact games.
Science – Study of living and non-living things.
Social Studies – Geography study of maps and globes and what they represent.
First Grade
Spelling Words – “sh” family shy, shut, mash sight words – find, away, make, come.
Writing – First graders will finish up on opinion writing. Later, in week we will start an “How To” informational writing piece.
Reading – I have finished testing first grade students in reading. I am pleased with student progress in reading and comprehension. First graders readers need to continually read to build fluency. Book bags will go home this week, please sign the reading log in the book bag and have your child read the book three times to build fluency and then have your child retell the story to build their comprehension skills.
Science – Introduction to matter -solids, liquids, heat.
Social Studies – Geography – students will learn about maps, globes and learn how to make maps from an aerial perspective.
Math – students will learn relations; greater than, less than, and equal to, explore area, weight and counting, counting with tens and ones, write more than and less than number stories and practice addition math facts with winter math fact games.
