Dates to Remember

Monday, June 9 – We will celebrate summer birthdays with a pizza party at lunch-time. Pizza and a drink will be provided for lunch. If your child does not like pizza, please pack them a lunch. Please remember to bring a beach towel we will be eating outside if the weather is nice.

Tuesday, June 10 – Class Picnic will be held from 12:45 – 3:15. Students will go to lunch at the regular time 12-12:30. The remainder of the afternoon we will celebrate the end of the school year on the playground. Rain date will be Wednesday, June 11th.

Thursday, June 12 – Last Day of School – 1/2 day.

Please check and make sure you return any over-due library books and please return reading book bags.

Also, please make sure your child continues to bring their back-pack and blue folder to school.I will be sending home things as we clean up the classroom.

Dates to Remember

Tuesday, June 3 – First Annual Writing Portfolio Review – 9:15 am in school cafeteria. Please come and review your child’s writing for the year. See the different genres from Narrative to Informational to Opinion Writing.

Wednesday, June 4 – Library – No book check-out. Last day to return library books. Books not returned -students will have a library fine.

Friday, June 6 – Field Day 9:15 – 12:00 Rain Date Monday, June 9th. A note will be sent home this week. We will need volunteers for this fun event!

Tuesday, June 10th End of Year Class Picnic – A note will be sent home this week along with sign-up for food items and volunteers for picnic (clean-up, set-up and games).

Thursday, June 12th – Last Day of School – 1/2 day dismissal 11:45 pm

Spelling Test – Monday, June 2. Spelling words from last week. I was out on Friday and students did not take spelling test.

Dates to Remember

Next week will be a short week of school.

Thursday, May 22 – Detroit Zoo Field Trip. We will be leaving on the bus at 9:10 am and we will arrive back at school approximately by 2:30 pm. Please do not forget to pack a brown bag lunch with your child’s name on it with a disposable drink. Let’s hope the weather is good – we will go rain or shine.

Friday, May 23 – No school. Conference Day

Monday, May 26 – No school. Memorial Day

Spelling – There will be no spelling tests this week for K-1.

Last week was a busy week, students took district math and writing math assessments. I just have a few more DRA reading assessments to give and reading assessments should be complete. The remainder of the year, we will finish up units in math, science, and social studies and do some reviewing.

Students admission costs are free. Bake sale funds paid for student zoo admission fees.

However, if family members would like to meet us at the zoo the admission fee is $7.00, if paid in advance. Money is due Friday, May 16.  If anyone has questions, please let me know. Thank you.

A Zoo Field Trip note went home yesterday in your child’s blue folder. If you plan on meeting us at the zoo on Thursday, May 22, and would like to pay in advance with the group rate of $7.00, the admission fee is due Friday, May 16. I need to get a head count and collect money in advance for the zoo.

Wednesday, May 14 – Late Start – students start school one hour later.

Thursday, May 22 – Detroit Zoo Field Trip.

Field trip permission slips need to be turned in. Students will not be able to attend the field trip if they do not have a signed field trip permission slip.

Wednesday, May 14 – Run Club will start up again and will end June 4. Run Club is after school from 3:40 – 4;10 p.m. Your child needs to have a permission slip to participate.

Thank you to all who thought of me during Teacher Appreciation week with the pot-luck luncheon, gifts, flowers, and the many thoughtful cards and pictures that I received from your child.  Thank you!!

Our Mother’s Day Tea was a wonderful event! I hope everyone is enjoying today as well. Happy Mother’s Day!

Assessments

During the week students will be tested on the District Writing Assessment – Informational and students will be tested on the District Math Common Assessment.  In addition, I will be finishing up on the DRA reading assessment this week.

Friday, May 9 – Student’s will host a Mother’s Day Tea at 1:00 pm in Mrs. Polgar’s classroom.

Wednesday, May 7 – Ride your bike to school day.

May 5 – May 9 – Teacher Appreciation Week.

Thursday, May 22 – Detroit Zoo Field Trip.

A note along with a permission slip for the field trip and anyone who is interested in being a chaperone for the trip will need to sign a request. This information will go home in blue folders on Monday. I will draw five names for chaperones on Friday, May 9.  We only have room on the bus for five chaperones per classroom as we will be joining Ms. Gale’s classroom on the trip.

The field trip permission slip and chaperone request is due on Friday, May 9, NO LATER. I have to send a check to the zoo weeks in advance, and it is important I have all permission slips and chaperone names for the bus.

There will not be any homework packets going home for the remainder of the year for Kindergarten. I would like to focus on writing/spelling in spelling notebooks and reading book bags as homework for the remainder of the year.

We had a nice time at our field trip to Ann Arbor Hands Musem and the Scrap Box. The kids were excited to go home and make something with there scraps. I look forward to our next field trip.

Thursday, May 1  – Ann Arbor Field Trip. We will be leaving promptly at 9:15. am and returning by 2:30 pm. Students are still dismissed at 3:35 PM. Reminder send a brown bag lunch with name on bag. Families are welcome to meet us at the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum there is an admission cost for adults of $6.00. There is no admission fee for adults at the Scrap Box.

Field trip permission slips are due Monday, April 28. If your child does not turn in a permission slip they will not be permitted to go on the field trip.

Monday, April 14 – Scholastic Book Orders are due.

Tuesday, April 15 – Spring Pictures

Thursday, April 17 – Spring Egg Hunt starts at 1pm. Please let me know, if you would like to help on Thursday with the egg hunt. Remember to have your child bring in 20 eggs with a small treat inside. Seal the egg with tape. (Some eggs do not stay closed and the goodies come flying out!) Also, don’t forget to have your child bring a basket or bucket to hold their eggs.

Friday, April 18 – No school. Spring Break begins.

Monday, April 28 – Back to school from break.

Thursday, May 1 – Ann Arbor Field Trip. A permission slip needs to be signed for your child to go on the field trip. There is no student admission costs for the trip. However, if you plan on meeting us at the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum there will be an admission fee of $6.00 for adults. There is no admission fee for the Ann Arbor Scrap Box for adults. Unfortunately, our bus is full with three classrooms so we have no room for chaperones. However, we still need chaperones to help on our field trip, so please let me know if you plan on going. If you have any questions, please let me know.

“bl” and “gl” blends –  bled, blue, blow, blot, glum, glad, glow      sight words – new, who, let.   (Reminder – “ow” can make an “o” sound like in blow and glow).
