Dates to Remember

Tuesday, March 1 – March is Reading Month Kick-off Assembly. Student’s will bring home a calendar of reading activities and a reading log to participate in March is Reading Month.

Wednesday, March 2 – Library check-in and check-out. PBIS celebration for student’s who have earned positive Class Dojo points.

Friday, March 4 – Brainstormers will visit Nowlin. Brainstormers is a team of actor’s who perform skits based on your child’s stories they write in class.

Family Project for Month of March – Mrs. Polgar’s class is going to try to catch a Leprechaun. Students will build a Leprechaun Trap and bring traps to school by Tuesday, March 15 BEFORE St. Patrick’s Day, March 17. Information/details will go home in blue folders.

Traditional Spring Egg Hunt – Mrs. Polgar’s class will have an egg hunt on Thursday, March 24 in the afternoon. More information will be forthcoming. I will need volunteers to help assist hiding the eggs outside and assisting kids during the egg hunt.

Spelling Words for Week – pen, men, ten.   sight words – be, do, yellow.

A number of families have asked if I could post new spelling words on Friday. So, I will post a new list on Friday on my classroom blog. Please have your child practice writing a simple sentence with a spelling word each day. This will help your child with forming letters, sounds and practicing sight word recognition.

Dates to Remember

Hands on Museum Field Trip – I will be finalizing the field trip this week. If you have not turned in your child’s $4.00 admission fee, please do so by Tuesday, February 23. Again, if you signed up to chaperone you must fill out a background check form and the office needs to have a copy of your license.

Monday, February 22 – return red folders and blue folders.

Wednesday, February 24 – Library Check-in and Check-out

Friday, February 26 – PBIS – Celebration. If your child has received positive Class Dojo points in the month of February they will attend the celebration.

Friday, February 26 – Bake Sale – Mrs. Polgar and the reading committee is holding a bake sale after school to sponsor March is reading month. Profits from the bake sale will go to funding a visiting author, books and more. We need baked goods  for the bake sale. Please bring baked goods in by Friday for the sale.

Peek at the Week

Math – Addition strategies, decomposing numbers within five, writing numbers 1-30, counting 1-75, counting by 10s, 5s, and comparing numbers greater than, less than.

Science – Living things, non-living things. Plant life – what does a plant needs to live?

Social Studies – Study of Geography. Continue with study of maps and there different uses.

Daily Five – comprehension strategies, decoding word strategies, CVC word practice.

Writing – We will start a new unit on narrative writing. Elements of narrative stories – beginning, middle, end, characters, setting, problem, events and a solution.

Tuesday, February 16 – Hundred’s Day project due. Hundred’s Day Party 1-2 p.m. We are still in need of volunteers for the party to help with centers. Please let me know if you can help out.

Dates to Remember

Monday, February 8Hands on Museum Field trip money is due, $4.00 admission cost per child. I can only except CASH only. If you would like to chaperone, I need to know by Monday also. Once again, all chaperones are required to fill out a history background check along with a copy of your license. I have to call this week with a head count as to how many children and chaperones will be attending, so I can secure our reservation for April 5.

Wednesday, February 10 – Valentine mail-boxes are due. Please make sure your child’s name is on their mail-box.

Thursday, February 11 – Join us for the Nowlin’s Daily Five Parent Workshop Model from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Come and work with your child and learn what reading and writing strategies your child learns during Daily Five.

Mrs. Polgar’s Valentine’s Party 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Please make sure your child has their Valentine cards with their name labeled in a bag to pass out during the party.

Friday, February 12 – Winter Break – no school

Monday, February 15 – Winter Break – no school

Tuesday, February 16 – All students return to school from Winter Break.

Upcoming Events

Thursday, February 18 – One Hundred’s Day Party from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. I need (5) volunteers for centers at our party and to help with ice cream sundaes after the party. Room mom’s will be sending donation and volunteer sign-up this week.
