Dates to Remember:

Monday, October 10 – Please sign and return progress reports/red folder on Monday. Homework packets will be going out on Monday. Homework packets will always be passed out on Monday and returned on the following Monday. Please see attached directions with packet.

Wednesday, October 12 – Library check-in and check-out.

Thursday, October 13 – Mrs. Polgar’s Class will have a bake sale after school on Thursday. We will need donations of baked goods for the bake sale and parent volunteers to help set-up and work at the table after school on Thursday. Please arrive 15-20 minutes before school dismissal to help set-up.

Friday, October 14 – Half-day of school. Dismissal 11:45 a.m.

Monday, October 31 – Mrs. Polgar’s Halloween Party will be from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Children may bring a costume to school that they can easily slip over their clothing. No masks, weapons, blood or violent themes. Students will report to school wearing regular clothing. Please make sure all costumes come to school in a bag labeled with your child’s name. Children will change into their costumes when they return from lunch at 11:35 a.m. We will need parent volunteers to help with costumes, stations and clean-up.

Friday, October 28 – PTO Fall Festival 6-7 p.m.

Sight Words of the Week: I, a, see

Math – Reviewing numbers 0-5. Introducing numbers 6-8. Working with ten frames, counting 1-30, counting objects in groups and working on patterns.

Daily Five – Daily Five is a literacy block where students work independently in five areas – Read to Self, Work on Writing, Read to Someone, Work on Word and Listen to Reading. Students are working on Read to Self and building stamina in reading. We have learned 3 ways to read a book. We work on reading pictures and emergent readers for sight word recognition. Students have also learned to Work on Writing and I will be introducing Work on Word this week.

Social Studies – We are studying Social Studies Unit: How Can We Get Along. Students are studying responsibility, fairness, reviewing classroom rules and school rules.

Science – We are studying the Five Senses. This week we will look at the sense of taste. We will study our taste buds and why we need the sense of taste.

Writing – We are working on narrative writing. This week we will continue working on beginning, middle, and endings in narrative writing. Reviewing characters, settings and events in narrative writing.

Class Dojo and PBIS/Classroom Behavior Clip Chart – I will be sending home information on my classroom behavior management system in blue folders this week. This will help parents share in behavior management with their child at home and in school.

Welcome to Mrs. Polgar’s Class Blog

The following list is a suggested school supply list for kindergarten.

1 Backpack – regular size (no wheels)

1 Full set of clothes in a labeled Ziploc gallon bag (season appropriate – in case of accidents)

2 boxes of Crayola crayons – box of 24

1 black Expo marker -dry erase

Elmer’s Glue sticks – 4-6 pack

1 Composition Notebook

These items will be shared by all at learning centers.

Appreciated Supplies: The items listed below are some other suggestions we will use throughout the year, if you would like to donate. It is greatly appreciated.

Kleenex tissues

Paper towels

White printer paper

Extra Elmer’s glue sticks

Dates to Remember

Tuesday, June 14 – Year End Picnic 12:15 – 3:15. Families are welcome to join us. Bring a beach-towel or chair and relax.

Wednesday, June 15 – The last PBIS celebration of the year will be held in the afternoon.

Thursday, June 16 – Last day of school is a 1/2 day. Dismissal is at 11:45 am.

Dates to Remember

Friday, June 10 – Field Day 9:15 – 12:00 p.m. Rain date: Monday, June 13th. Please be sure to have your child wear gym shoes and apply sunscreen before school starts. All beef hot dogs and chips will be served during regular scheduled lunchtime. If your child does not like hot dogs or cannot have hot dogs, please pack them a lunch for the day.

If you would like to volunteer for field day, please let me know or Mr. Vigilante at 313-827-6900.

Tuesday, June 14 – Year End Class Picnic 12:15 – 3:15 p.m. Rain date: Wednesday, June 15. Students will have lunch in the cafeteria at regular scheduled time 11:40 – 12:10 p.m. A note with a list of items needed for the picnic was sent home last week. Homeroom moms will be contacting with group email sign-on or you can let me know, what you would like to donate for the picnic. I also am in need of volunteers to help set up tables ahead of time, help with games, and to clean up after.

Families are welcome to join us for the picnic. Please bring a chair or blanket/beach towel and relax.

Library – There will no longer be library check-in or check-out. All library books are due back. If you have received an overdue notice and you cannot find your library book, please see the librarian for overdue fine.

Spelling – We have been reviewing sight words for the end of the year.

Lost and Found – Please make sure to check the lost and found in the lobby for any items that may belong to your child.

The next two weeks student work and some belongings will be sent home as we review for the end of the school year.

Date to Remember

Wednesday, May 25 – Library check-in and check-out. Please make sure you return over-due books. The library will be closing shortly for the end of the year and all books will be due. If your child has a lost book there is a library fee for lost books.

Friday, May 27 and Monday, May 31 – No school in observance of Memorial Day weekend.

Spelling – There will not be a spelling test this week.

Writing – we will be starting a narrative writing unit. We finished a unit on informational writing on zoo animals and the class really enjoyed this unit.

Social Studies – Memorial Day – Constitution Rules. Why do we have rules?

Math – decomposing numbers within 10, missing addends, counting to 100 and recognizing numbers on 100 chart, and writing numbers efficiently.

Reading – reviewing sight words and building skills in fluency. Reviewing chunks in words and reviewing reading strategies.

Dates to Remember

Wednesday, May 20 – Student portfolio review. Parents are invited to come and look over your child’s writing portfolio. We will meet in the cafeteria in the morning. For exact time, please see note that went home last week in blue folders.

Run Club starts after school on Wednesday 3:40-4:05. Permission slip needs to be signed by parent.

Friday, May 16 – Spelling Test

Nowlin Field Day will be Friday, June 10 beginning at 9:15 a.m. Lunch will be served free of charge. Lunch includes a hot dog, chips, drink and a freeze pop. Rain date is Monday, June 13. If you would like to volunteer for this event we can always use volunteers for stations.

Dates to Remember

Monday, May 9 – Detroit Zoo Field Trip. Please remember to pack your child a brown bag lunch with disposable items. Chaperones please be in the classroom at 8:50 for group assignments and please do not forget to bring a back-pack to hold lunch bags.

Wednesday, May 11 – Late Start. Students arrive an hour later for school.

Thursday, May 12 – PBIS Celebration for students who earned positive Class Dojo points for the month of April.

Teacher Appreciation Week – Thank you for the flowers, snack, and cards throughout the week for Teacher Appreciation Week. I have a very loving and thoughtful class!

Dates to Remember

Monday, May 9Zoo Field Trip. If you have not turned in a field trip permission slip for your child, please turn it in on Monday. If you plan on being a chaperone for the trip, $5.00 admission is due on Monday. I need to get a head count for the trip by Monday, so I can finalize reservation payment for the trip.

Also, if you plan on being a chaperone, you need to fill out a history background check and submit a copy of your license in the office. There are a few people who indicated they wanted to chaperone and the office does not have a history background form on file. If you do not have a form on file, you will not be able to chaperone.

Monday, May 2 – Please return blue folder and red folders. Please make sure you empty your child’s folder and sign progress reports. We have Art and Music on Mondays.

Tuesday, May 3 – Media in the morning.

Wednesday, May 4 – Library Check-In and Check-Out. Gym in the afternoon.

Thursday, May 5 – Music in the afternoon.

Friday, May 6 – Gym in the afternoon. Spelling Test.

We will finish up with math on the NWEA testing this week and do make-ups on reading and math for NWEA. The NWEA testing results will go home with report cards at the end of the year.

Book bags did not go home last week due to testing last week. Once testing is finished this week, book bags will go home.

Bake Sale – Last Friday our class bake sale was a success! Thank you for your help and donations.
