Peek at the Week:

Letters of the Week – Ii and Kk   Sight words for the week – look  – at  (Look at the bat.) Practice writing sight word sentences at home – Look at the bat. Look at the cat.

Practice drawing pictures of things that begin with Ii or Kk and practice labeling pictures at home. King, Kangaroo, Iguana, Ice Cream.

Literacy/Daily Five – I am finishing up testing this week so I can have assessments ready for report cards. So, I may not be able to meet with reading groups because we have a short week of school. I will not be in on Tuesday and Kindergartners have Friday off. I may put some books in book bags to review. My class loves meeting with me in reading groups!! It makes my heart happy they love to read and want to go home and read too!!

Daily Five – we are working on recognizing when two words rhyme. Rhyming words have the same ending sounds/chunks. Rhyming words such as -bat, cat, fat, sat. We continue to work on syllables in words – how many parts in a word? pump – kin   mon-ster   re-cess. Also, recognizing first sounds in words. We are practicing sounding out words in reading and writing so recognizing the first sound in a word is where we start when we sound out a word.

Writing – Last week students brought home a book with sentences such as – I can see the bat. We worked on sentence structure and sounding out new words. Are focus was to write the sounds we hear. I was really happy with their work and they were really proud too!! Homework was to read their book to you. This week we will focus on a new sentence pattern – Look at the bat. Look at the ___.

Math – Math homework packets will go home on Monday and will be turned in next Monday, October 29. On Monday we will assess counting and adding one more to a set/fluently. We will also review last week’s homework packet. Students really liked the homework packet and were excited to show me their work. This week we will work on One Less with Numbers 0-10. Focus will be understanding the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality. Counting to 10 and making sums and differences to 10.

Social Studies – We continue to work on lessons with our social skills program – Second Step. The lessons have been very helpful for students to understand why it is important to listen, follow directions and follow classroom rules.

Have a great day!!

Mrs. Polgar
