Friday, October 5 – PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System) Assembly 8:50-9:50 a.m. Library check-in and check-out books. Homework packets due.
Peek at the Week:
Letters of the Week: Ff and Ss – Sight word of week – like ( I like apples). Please review letters and sounds at home by writing letters and discussing what things start with a given letter.
Book bags – We have started reading groups. Please look for a book bag to go home with a reading log for parent signature. Have your child read to you and have them point to each word as they read. Talk about the pictures in the book and ask your child if they can find the picture word in text (cat). Reading bags will also include sight words for you to review with your child. Things to do with sight words for reinforcement:
Make sentences with sight word cards – I can see the . . .
Write sight word sentences.
Practice writing sight words/spelling.
Flip the cards over and have your child flip them over and tell you the word.
Please make sure you sign and return reading log and sight word cards in book bag.
Math – Eureka – Taking a look at numbers 5-8. Making groups and learning strategies to count objects in circular and scattered configurations. How is a given configuration different than another? Comparing and counting along with matching. Writing numbers 0-8 in proper formation. Continuing work with five frames and ten frames. Asking how many more would make 5 or 10?
Reading – Comprehension – Apple Unit Working on visualizing a story, sequencing a story, identifying key information and looking at informational text features.
Daily Five – We have been working on Read to Self, Work on Writing, Work on Word and started Read to Someone last week. Working on group rotations this week.
Writing – Introducing unit on opinion writing – I like . . . Learning an opinion is stating what you think or what you believe. Introduction to parts of a sentence in opinion writing – every sentence begins with an upper case letter and words have spaces between them along with punctuation at the end of a sentence.
If you did not get a chance to sign up for Parent-Teacher conferences I will be sending home times available in November during the week.
