News for Week of December 16 – 20

Dates to Remember

Wow! Did we get the snow. Please remember students need to pack snow-pants and snow boots to play at recess. If they do not have snow-pants or boots they can not play in the snow.

Thursday, December 19 – Holiday Party 1-2 pm. Please come and join us at our holiday party and help volunteer at stations. 

Friday, December 20 – Hop aboard the Polar Express in Mrs. Polgar’s Class. Students may wear PJ’s to school on Friday and will enjoy hot chocolate while watching the “Polar Express.”

Friday, December 20 – Sing-a-long with Holiday songs in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the Gym. All are Welcome!

Winter Recess – Begins at the end of the day on Friday, December 20, 2013 and will reopen on Monday, January 6, 2014.

Kindergarten

Review Sight words – I, and, you, me, a, the, like, see, is, look, at, my

Writing – We are working on informational writing and writing facts about arctic animals.

Math – Extending shape patterns, counting from any given number, using a calculator, graphing, adding and subtracting with dice.

Social Studies – Economics- studying reasons why people voluntarily trade.

Science – Physical Science – Push and Pull concept.

First Grade

Spelling – There will be no spelling test this week. Please continue to review sight word lists with your child and return the list once it is mastered to school. These are common sight words that students will see often in their reading in first grade and should be able to read fluently.

Writing – We are working on informational writing and working on introductory sentences, factual information and closing sentences on our planners and in are writing. We are learning information about arctic animals.

Math – Exploring data, shapes and Base-10 blocks, telling time on the quarter-hour, time-lines, and working with number scrolls.

Social Studies – Economics – studying reasons why people voluntarily trade.

Science – Studying precautions that should be taken during severe weather conditions.

Reading – Please listen to your child read at home and review sight words with you child nightly. These reading skills promotes growth in your child’s reading fluency, comprehension and progression in reading levels.
