News for Week of November 18 – 22

Dates to Remember:

Parent Teacher Conferences – Wednesday, November 20 and Thursday, November 21

Turkey Disguise Project due – Monday, November 18

Picture Re-takes – Monday, November 25

Star of the Week – Congratulations! Jordyn Hazamy and Great Job! Ricael Rodriguez – we enjoyed your week.

Donations – If you have any old socks at home we could use them in our classroom for erasers for our white-boards. We can also use some tissue in the classroom. Unfortunately, it is that time of year and we have the sniffles in our classroom.

Parents, thank you for your support at home. I know we all have busy schedules after school and I know that all of you are taking the time to help your child with their school work. So, thank you for partnering with me in your child’s success.

We will practice writing Mm and exploring different things that begin with Mm.

Writing – We continue to work on opinion writing pieces. We are also checking to make sure we start a sentence with a upper-case letter, have spaces between our words, writing sounds we hear in words, and ending sentences with punctuation.

Math – We will be comparing numbers, putting numbers in order, describing and using shapes, and learning the concept of probability in story problems.

Science – We will explore how objects fall toward the earth and the concept of gravity.

Social Studies – We will review needs and wants and focus on goods and services in our Economic Unit.

First Grade

bed, fed, job, rob    sight words – said, good

Writing – we continue to work on opinion writing pieces and using graphic organizers to help us plan our writing.

Math – We will focus on solving word problems with money, begin quick addition facts, counting dime, nickels and pennies, and using a line plot to solve math problems.

Science – We will continue our unit on Weather studying vocabulary related to daily weather changes.

Social Studies – We will focus on producers and consumers related with goods and services.

Reading – Individual sight word lists were sent home last week. Please review the list and help your child read these sight words fluently. Once they have mastered reading their sight words they will get another list to practice. One list remains at home so you can make a booklet or write the words on index cards so that your child can review the words throughout the year.

Have a nice day!

Mrs. Polgar
