Dates to Remember
This week we will celebrate Nowlin Spirit Week. Also, don’t forget to bring in canned goods for CAN drive. The last day will be Thursday to donate canned goods.
Monday – Disney Day -Dress as your favorite Disney character or wear your favorite Disney gear. Family Project Disguised Turkeys and Homework packets are due.
Tuesday – PJ Day– Wear your favorite pajamas.
Wednesday – Nerd Day -Dress up as a geeky nerd. Late start day – students arrive at school one hour later at 9:35 a.m. and are dismissed at regular time 3:35 p.m. Parent-teacher conferences are held after school 4:00 – 6:40 p.m. We will not have library due to late start, however, students still need to return library books on Wednesday.
Thursday – Nowlin Pride Day – Dress in all of your Nowlin school gear or wear school colors blue and white. Parent-teacher conferences are held after school 4:00-6:40 p.m.
Friday – Mustache Day – Draw it on or stick it on.
Thanksgiving Break – No school on Wednesday, November 23, Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25.
Peek at the Week
Letter of the Week – Mm New Sight Words for week – my, is
Please review sight words with your child on note-cards, flash-cards or a system that your child can practice reading and writing their sight words. Previous sight words learned will always be printed on the homework packet.
Math – Counting goals for 2nd card-marking by ones – 1-50, by tens, 1-100, by fives, 5-50. Writing numbers 1-20. Recognizing and counting numbers by different modalities such as; ten frames, tally marks, number lines, objects in groups. We will focus on tally marks and odd/even numbers along with understanding the one’s and ten’s place in two digit numbers. Ending our week with addition number stories.
Social Studies – We have begun an economic unit on needs and wants. This week we will learn about goods and services and how we use them in every day living.
Science – We have started a unit on physical science on motion/forces. This week we will focus on push/pulls and we will take a look at how things move.
Daily Five – This week I will introduce Listen to Reading. Students will focus on listening to stories on computer and the CD player. We will continue to work on building stamina and fluency during Daily Five. Each week we have been reviewing upper-case and lower-case letters along with sounds. Additional focus is on sounding words out in reading and writing; identifying first sounds of words and last sounds of words.
Writing – We will begin a new unit on informational writing on turkeys. Students will learn facts about turkeys and write factual information about turkeys that is important to them.
