I hope everyone is enjoying their fall vacation. We have had beautiful weather with lots of sunshine.
Dates to Remember:
Thursday, October 17 – We will have a fireman Drew visit the classroom in the afternoon to talk about fire safety.
Return book bags along with parent signature on book bag reading log.
Friday, October 18 – There will be no spelling test this week. New spelling words/test will be given next week.
Thursday, October 31 – Halloween Party. Keeping with Nowlin School tradition, Kindergartners will dress up for our annual Halloween party and we will join Ms. Gale’s classroom for some Halloween fun in the afternoon from 1-2 p.m. The First graders will join Mrs. Dika’s first grade classroom for their Halloween party. We are asking first graders to wear something orange for the day to celebrate, “Orange you Glad it’s Halloween.”
I will be setting up a meeting with room mom’s to discuss the Halloween Party next week, Mrs. Jeffries and Mrs. Ford.
This year, I am also asking for classroom party donations to commemorate Halloween, Winter Holidays, Valentine’s Day, and the End of the School Year. A donation of $10.00 is suggested to help us cover the cost of supplies for these events. Please remember, this is strictly a voluntary donation used for your child’s enjoyment. Any amount, more or less than the suggested amount, would be greatly appreciated. Please provide CASH only. Please place your contribution in an envelope with your child’s name and homeroom on it. Please label the envelope “Party Donation.”
First Grade
This week, I will be sending home a reading log as part of reading homework for first graders. First graders should be reading 20 minutes every night to build their reading fluency. This reading log is a supplement to the take home reading bags. I cannot stress enough the importance of reading at home regularly. We know the more you practice something you get better at it, and it is the same with reading. Students practice sports after school, and they should practice reading too! If you are limited with books at home visit the library, garage sales, and re-sale shops for books. I find books for as little as 25cents. Now that is a bargain!
Enjoy the remainder of your vacation!
