News for week of September 29 – Oct 3

Dates to Remember

Monday, September 29 – Picture Day. Return picture order form if you would like your child to have their picture taken.

School break – Friday, October 3 and Monday, October 6.

Tuesday, September 30 – students are asked to bring an apple to school for Science. Information went home on Friday in blue folder.

Red folders did not go out this week because I was not in class for two days.  Please talk to your child about classroom behavior; always listening, following directions quickly and keeping hands to self.

If you did not make open house and did not sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences, please stop by and schedule a time for a conference. Parent-teacher conferences are November 13, 19, 20.

Letter of Week – We will review letter Dd.

Sight words – we will review sight words I, see, a

Numbers – We will review writing numbers 1-5. Please practice writing numbers 1-5 at home.

Please practice letters and sounds of alphabet and writing first name. Once they master their first name we move to the last name.

Writer’s Workshop – K.W.3.1 Use pictures and words to tell about the events in a story. We are writing personal narratives and learning about story elements. Using characters and setting in our writing.

Math Workshop – We are comparing body height, counting numbers 1-20, writing numbers, distinguishing different shapes, and learning about ten frames.

Science – S.IP.00.11 Make purposeful observation of the natural world using the appropriate senses. We will study the sense of taste and touch this week.

Social Studies – K.C5.0.1 Describe situations in which you demonstrate self-discipline and individual responsibility. We are learning about responsibility and citizenship. Using role playing story time to understand terms.

Reading – We have learned three components of the Daily Five Literacy Block. Read to Self, Work on Writing and Word Work. I am really pleased with how students are independently working during Daily Five. I will introduce Read to Someone this week in Daily Five. Kids love reading to a buddy!
