Dates to Remember:
Monday, January 27 – Kindergarten will take the NWEA Math assessment in the morning. On Thursday, February 6 it will be the 100th day of school! A notice will go home on Monday to give you the details of how we are going to celebrate 100 days of school.
Upcoming dates and events in February:
Wednesday, February 5 – Late start. Students report to school one hour later.
Thursday, February 6 – Celebrate 100th day of school.
Friday, February 7 – No school for Kindergarten. Kindergarten teachers will be attending a professional development workshop.
Friday, February 14 – Valentine’s Day. Mrs. Polgar’s class will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a small party. More information will be coming soon!
Winter Break – No school February 17 – February 21.
Peek at the Week:
Social Studies: Look at time lines in history with historical figures; Abraham Lincoln. Students presented their timelines in class and really loved looking at their friend’s timelines. I enjoyed the pictures too!!
Science: We continue to look at the weather and learn new weather vocabulary.
Math – We will start a new unit with number bonds this week. Students will learn to decompose numbers 2,3,4,5 in different compositions. Finding the missing addend in a number sentence. 2+ ? =5.
Writing – Last week we had fun learning about Arctic animals. Each student chose an Arctic animal and in groups we learned; what Arctic animals eat, what color they are and why they are that color, what unique body parts they have, what they are (mammal, bird, etc.). Later, we wrote interesting facts in a short informational report.
This week we learn more about the Arctic Polar Bear. We will continue writing interesting facts that we learn about the Polar Bear.
Daily Five/Literacy – Sight words for the week: did, not, she. Digraph – “wh” whistle, whale, white. Short “u” vowel “ug” “un” family. tug, bug, bun, fun
We will take a practice spelling test on the word “at” word family – cat, mat, hat. Along with sight words – I, can, see. Again, this is a spelling practice test.
Beginning the week of February 3rd we will begin taking spelling tests on Fridays. A spelling packet will go home on Monday the week of a spelling test. Information will go home Monday, February 3rd.
Reports cards went home on Friday. If you have any questions regarding your child’s report card I would be happy to meet with you to go over the report card. NWEA results will go home at a later date as we have not completed assessments yet.
