Writing – we will start a unit on informational writing on turkeys. Writing facts that we learn from non-fiction text.
Literacy/Daily Five – Reading comprehension – learning to make text-connections. How do you connect with the text? Does the story remind you of anything? Reading strategies – reviewing beginning sounds and ending sounds in words. Stretching sounds and practicing writing the sounds we hear.
Math – Last week we learned about 2D shapes-flat shapes such as; a triangle, rectangle, square, hexagon and a circle. This week we will take a look at 3D Solid shapes such as; cone, cube, cylinder, rectangular prism and sphere. We will describe objects in the environment using names of shapes, and describe the relative positions of these objects using vocabulary – above, below, beside, in front of, behind and next to. Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size. Analyze and compare two and three dimensional shapes, in different sizes and orientations, using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, parts.
Science – Weather unit – study of seasons. We will finish are drawings of the four seasons and attributes of each season.
As the cold weather approaches us, please remember to have your child dress warm. If your child is wearing boots to school don’t forget their shoes to wear during the day.
