News for Week of March 19 – 23

Dates to Remember:

Tuesday, March 20 – Hurray! Spring begins!!

Thursday, March 22 – Library check-in and check-out. There will be no tutoring after school on Thursday due to Parent-Teacher conferences.

Friday, March 23 – Turn in reading minutes for March is Reading Month. Homework packets are due. Take spelling test for the week.

Peek at the Week:

Spelling words for the week: “ap” family – tap, map, cap, clap, flap, slap,  sight word – funny

Phonics: studying onset l blends (bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl)

Writing – We will begin a new writing unit on opinion writing. Writing opinions with a reason.

Math – Comparison of Numerals.

Compare a number of objects and state which quantity is more.

Count and compare two sets of objects and state which quantity is less.

Compare two sets.

Visualize quantities to compare two numerals.

New card marking 4 – Counting to 100 by ones and tens. Writing numbers to 30. (We have been practicing writing to 100 too!). Fluently adding and subtracting facts to 5. Adding and subtracting up to 10. Reviewing addition and subtraction story problems and solving number sentences. Reviewing place value tens and ones place with base ten blocks.  Practicing number bonds – understanding missing number  3+     =5. What number plus 3 would equal 5?

Science – Life Science – Study of animal and plant life.

Social Studies – We will finish up on geography unit on maps. Students did a great job last week on creating their own maps of their neighborhood with a map legend.

Book bags for some reading groups did not go home last week as I was assessing students in reading. Students are using reading strategies and doing a great job!
