News for the week of January 29 – February 2

Dates to Remember:

Monday, January 29 – Return red and blue folders. Please remember to sign progress report in red folder. Homework packets will go home for week.

Thursday, February 1 – Library check-in and check-out.

Friday, February 2 – No school for Kindergarten only. Kindergarten teachers will be attending a professional development workshop. Friday is also Groundhog’s day. As tradition goes we shall see if the groundhog sees his shadow. If he sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of Winter. If he does not see his shadow we will have an early Spring.

Monday, February 5 – Homework packets are due. Spelling test will be given.

Wednesday, February 15 – Valentine’s Day class party. We will be passing out Valentine’s at the party. If you would like to plan ahead we have 21 students in our class. We have a new student Mila Mohamad. Welcome Mila!

This week students will take home a homework packet and will be responsible for studying and practicing their spelling/sight words on the Tic-Tac-Toe sheet attached. Also, included in the packet are daily math assignments and reading for the week. Homework packets will go home on Mondays and students will turn packets in on Fridays. Spelling tests will be given on Fridays.

*This week we do not have school on Friday. The spelling test and homework packet will be turned in on Monday, February 5.

Peek at the Week:

Spelling words – “at” family words – mat, cat, pat.   sight words – come, said.

Phonics – Review onset digraphs – (ch): cheese, chat, chick.

Writing – We will begin a new unit on informational writing on Polar Bears. We will write about important facts that we have learned about polar bears and study new vocabulary.

Math – Start of a new math program – Eureka Math. This week we will study measurement and learn about units of measurement. In your child’s homework packet will be student homework sheets from Eureka Math.

Science – We will continue with the study of weather and learn about hazardous types of weather.

Reading – Comprehension focusing on informational text.

This week report cards will go home along with NWEA reading and math assessments. I am really happy with the growth students have made since the beginning of the year. Thank you for your support at home I truly value our partnership in learning!
