Dates to Remember
Monday, January 30 – Students will bring home a February home project for our Valentine’s party. Also, information will go home regarding our 100 day party with a 100 day project.
Wednesday, February 1 – Library Check-in/out.
Thursday, February 2 – Groundhog Day. Will the Groundhog see his shadow? Early Spring or Late Spring?
Friday, February 3 – Mrs. Polgar will have another bake sale after school. We need donations of baked goods and volunteers to run the bake sale. Please let me know if you are available to help out. All profits from the bake sale help fund field trips and classroom materials.
Friday, February 10 – Hundred’s Day party will be held in the afternoon from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. We will need volunteers to help with stations and to help scoop ice cream for ice cream sundaes at the end of our party. Please let me know if you are interested in helping out.
Tuesday, February 14 – We will have a small Valentine’s Party held in the afternoon from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Students will pass out Valentine’s to friends. We have 19 students in our classroom. (Please make sure your child only writes their name in the From section.) Do not fill out who it is TO.
Spelling Words for the Week – “an” family words. can, man, pan. Sight words – like, we, my
Family word poems will go home weekly to help your child recognize word family words that we are studying for the week. Please read the poem with your child and have them point out the word family words we are studying. While studying for a spelling test have your child spell other word family patterns such as; fan, tan, ban. This will help your child for the spelling test.
Peek at the Week
This week we will start Card Marking 3. Report cards will go home some time this week from Card Marking 2.
Math – we will start a new unit on addition/subtraction and focus on fluency with math facts. We will also begin a math unit on money. We will study the value and characteristics of coins. Focus on counting to 100 by one’s, five’s, ten’s, and two’s. Also, recognizing numbers and building number fluency on the hundred chart.
Writing – last week we started a unit on informational writing on How to build a snowman. This week we will write how to brush our teeth and how to make a pizza. Students are learning a new style of writing focusing on organization, sequencing and order, transition word order.
Science – we will start a new unit on Living Things. We will explore living and nonliving things this week. What are the characteristics of living things and nonliving things.
Social Studies – Students will start a new unit on geography. Where we live, exploring maps and positional word vocabulary.
Daily Five – We will get back to reading groups and book bags will be going home now that assessments are done. Students will work on sight word fluency with sight word activities. Focus on reading strategies when we come to a unknown word. Working on onset/rime – word family activities.
