This week students will take the NWEA Winter assessment in math and reading. Kindergarten students are scheduled to take the test on Tuesday, January 17th from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. and on Friday, January 20th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. In addition, students will prepare and take the District Writing – Opinion writing assessment this week. I have also been assessing students in reading and math for the upcoming report card period.
Since we have a short week with Monday off and a late start day this week we will have a spelling practice week along with a practice spelling test on the “at” family. This will get students ready for test taking and beginning spelling unit assignments.
I will start our spelling unit the week of January 23rd. Students will be given a spelling notebook and will be responsible for studying their spelling words/sight words along with completing assignments for the week. A new list of spelling words will go home on Mondays and students will turn in their notebooks and take a spelling test on Friday.
I will be discontinuing the homework packets. We will be focusing on our spelling units, nightly reading and math assignments for the remainder of the year.
Enjoy your day off!
