Dates to Remember
Monday, October 31 – Mrs. Polgar’s Halloween Party – 12-1 p.m. Students will bring their Halloween costumes to school and change into them after lunch at 11:35 a.m. Volunteers will arrive by 11:20 a.m. to help set up stations and help students with costumes. Parents are welcome to attend the party, but no siblings.
Homework packets, red and blue folders are due on Monday.
Wednesday, November 2 – Library check-in and check-out.
Friday, November 4 – Half day of school. Dismissal at 11:45 a.m. No lunch.
Tuesday, November 8 – No school. Teacher Professional Day.
Scheduling Parent Teacher Conferences for November 10, 16 and 17 – Conferences are held after school from 4:00 p.m. to 6:40 p.m. Conferences are held for 20 minutes. If you feel you need more time to meet with me we can schedule a separate time. I will have a conference sign-up sheet on my front table on Monday for parents to sign-up or you can let me know in person/e-mail to schedule a time. As a reminder the following parents have signed up for the following times:

Letter of the Week – Jj
Sight Words – (can, and) Reviewing sight words – I,a,see,the,like, at.
Math – We will be estimating pumpkin seeds and learning about estimating with calendar activities. We continue to practice counting by 10’s to 100, and counting 1-30. We will be also learning about teen numbers and why they start with a one with math activities. Practicing writing and reading numbers 1-20.
Daily Five – We have been practicing reading and writing new sight words with activities. Stretching letter sounds in words; especially first letter sounds in words. Matching upper-case letters with lower-case letters. Practicing writing our letters Aa-Zz. Recognizing sight words in emergent readers.
Writing – We will finish up on our writing unit on opinions. Students have practiced writing with a picture plan. Students are starting to use sight words in their writing and we continue to practice stretching sounds to form new words in our writing.
Science – We will be finishing up on the Five Senses unit this week.
Social Studies – We will be starting a new unit – How Do I Get What I Need and Want? Students will focus on new vocabulary – needs, wants, economic wants, trade, fairness.
