News for Week of April 25 – 29

Dates to Remember

Monday, May 9 – Detroit Zoo Field Trip. All field trip permission slips need to be turned in. If you plan on being a chaperone for the field trip you need to fill out a background history form and submit a copy of your license to the office. If you have already completed a background check, then you do not need to do anything further.  We will be able to accomodate seating on the bus for chaperones who signed up to chaperone. If you plan on meeting us at the zoo, please let me know in advance.

Monday, April 25 – Students will begin NWEA Reading assessment in computer lab.

Tuesday, April 26 – Students will begin District Informational Writing Prompt assessment.

Wednesday, April 27 – Library Check-in and Check-out.

Friday, April 29 – Mrs. Polgar’s after school bake sale. We are in need of volunteers and baked goods for the bake sale. Please consider contributing baked goods for the bake sale. The more baked goods we have the more we can sell. Last bake sale we earned enough to fund student admissions and chaperone costs to the Hands on Museum.

Math – We are working on a measurement unit and studying capacity. We are also getting prepared for the NWEA test in math by reviewing counting by ones, skip counting, recognizing numbers, counting groups of items, adding, subtracting, making tens and ones with ten frames and reviewing math vocabulary.

Daily Five – Working on blending and segmenting syllables into spoken words. Substituting individual sounds in one-syllable words to make new words. Reading non-fiction books and using text, illustrations to identify unknown words. Building sight word fluency and reviewing reading strategies in reading groups.

Social Studies – Public Discourse

Science – Earth Science

Writing – Informational Unit – District writing prompt on Living Animals and Basic Needs.

Have a great day!

Mrs. Polgar
