Dates to Remember
Wednesday, November 11 – Library check-out and return books.
Thursday, November 12 – Parent/Teacher Conferences after school. Please come on time so that I can spend the scheduled time with you to discuss your child’s progress. Report cards will be given to parents/guardians at conference.
Homework Packets – For the first card-marking students are using training wheels to be successful. Before long the training wheels will come off and they will be independently reading, writing and problem solving in math all on their own.
Tips for Homework packet:
Writing – Kindergartners are learning beginning sounds in words and just developing the skill of sounding out words. We continue to work on writing short sentences with sight words we have learned. So, I do not expect students to write complete sentences in their homework packets yet. Help your child practicing sounding out a word. Use the alphabet chart given for homework to help your child identify letters and make sounds.
Reading – Have your child tell you what a story was about. Have your child draw pictures for the beginning, middle and end. You do not have to dictate and write a book report for them. The purpose of the reading assignment is for your child to practice listening with understanding and practicing giving a retell – comprehension.
Math – Practice counting objects and counting out loud. Use the number chart given to help your child identify numbers and count.
Peek at the Week:
Letter of the Week: Ll
Sight Words of the week: to, go. Please continue to review previous sight words.
Writing – Informational writing – we will be learning about turkeys and writing an informational writing piece, “All about Turkeys.”
Reading – I will introduce, Listen to Reading this week for Daily Five. Students will listen to a story on a CD. They really enjoy this part of Daily Five.
Math – We continue to focus on exploring numbers. Moving into the teen numbers; writing, identifying, and counting teen numbers. There are those tricky teens – 11,12,13 and 15 that are tricky!
Science – We will move into a new unit in Science on Pushes and Pulls. Observing how objects fall toward the Earth.
Social Studies – Economics unit – How do I get what I need and want? We will learn about needs and wants.
The weather is changing and the cold air is among us – please be sure your child has a warm coat for recess.
Have a safe and wonderful day with your family.
