Dates to Remember
Monday, October 20 – Family Pumpkin Project due.
Friday, October 24 – Nowlin Fall Festival. Wear your Halloween Costume and join in the fun with games and prizes. Information went home on Friday in your child’s blue folder.
Friday, October 31 – Mrs. Polgar’s Halloween Party starting at 12:20 and ending at 1:20. Families are welcome to join us at the party with the exception of younger siblings. Students will change into their costumes after lunch. No masks, play guns, and weapons of any kind will be allowed at school. Mrs. Dowgiallo will be calling volunteers to help out at stations and clean-up. I will also have a volunteer sign-up sheet inside the classroom on the front desk.
Volunteer – Chaperone History Form – A Volunteer and Chaperone form must be filled out if you plan on volunteering in the classroom or being a chaperone on a field-trip. Also, a copy of your driver’s license is required. You can stop in the office and turn in the form or put it in your child’s blue folder. The office can make a copy of your driver’s license, if you would like.
Homework Packets – Most kindergartners are emerging writers – drawing pictures is writing and labeling pictures with the first letter sound is beginning writing in Kindergarten. Students that do know their letter sounds can practice stretching out first, middle and ending sounds when writing. If you find your child is struggling with their homework, please do not continue. We do not want them to get to the point of frustration. Please let me know if you have any questions, I am always happy to meet with you.
Progress reports – In the next week or so, you will receive a report on your child’s progress on their recognition of upper-case letters, lower-case letters and sound recognition. Along with the report will be a Letter/Sound chart and Number chart that you can use as an aid for homework. The charts are also resourceful to practice letter i.d., sounds and number i.d.,along with the formation of letters and numbers for writing.
Letter of the Week – Hh
Sight word of week – we
Review of sight words – I, a, see, and, like. Color-words – green, yellow, red.
I am very pleased with the progress I am seeing in our small groups during reading. Students are moving along with letter recognition/sounds and reading emergent readers. Each student has a book box with good fit books for reading. We are practicing matching word to picture when we read and reading sight words we have learned fluently. Thank you for your support at home. We make more leaps and bounds in learning when there is support at home.
I will not be in the classroom on Thursday, October 23. I will be attending another district conference. Ms. Leslie will be subbing for me again. The children enjoy having Ms. Leslie in the classroom.
Have a great weekend!
