News for week of October 13 – 17

Dates to Remember:

Tuesday, October 14 – PTO meeting at 6:30 PM followed by Parent Meeting at 7:00 PM.

Friday, October 31 – Halloween Classroom party. More information will be coming, as I will be meeting with homeroom mom’s this week to plan our party.

Peek at the Week

Students will continue with NWEA testing in the computer lab. Students did quite well for taking a test on the computer for the first time. I am very proud of the class!

Letters – Practice reviewing letters A-F  New letter for week – Gg

Sight words – Practice reviewing sight words – I, see, a, and, red, yellow, green.

New sight word for week – like.

Math Workshop – Working with shapes, using directional words – below, next to, between, behind, in front of, around, over, under, inside, outside, above, beside, up, down, left, right, writing and recognizing numbers, counting numbers 1-30, counting by 5’s and  studying patterns.

Writer’s Workshop – This week opinion writing will be introduced and students will learn about the difference between fact and opinion. Students will state their opinion in their writing; I like . . .

Science – We will finish up this week with our 5 Senses unit.

Social Studies – We will finish up with our unit on How Do I Get along with Others? Ending with learning about fairness and voting.

Language Arts – Daily Five – We will review Read to Someone and learn different ways we can read to someone. How to choose a partner and how to sit with a partner when reading a book. We continue to work on recognition of upper-case letters, lower-case letters, sounds and concepts of print to get us ready for reading text.

Homework packet – This week we will talk about fire-safety in class.
