Letter of the Week – Dd   Sight Word of the Week – see 

Please review the letter/sound and sight word of the week with your child weekly. We will do activities in class to review letter and sound recognition weekly. Also, please continue to work with your child on writing their first name. Their first name should begin with an upper case letter and all other letters should be written in lower case.

A Peek at the Week:

I have included the Common Core standards along with what we are learning in each subject area.

Everyday Math Lessons – Comparing coins, graphing numbers, writing numbers, understanding numbers on a number line; what number comes before and after a given number and recognizing and counting numbers 1-20.

WritingK.W.3 Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to narrate a single event or several loosely linked events. Students will be given the district writing assessment this week. They will write a personal narrative for the assessment. Students are working on details in their story and will learn about settings in their stories this week.

Social Studies – K – C5.0.1 Describe situations in which I can demonstrate self-discipline and individual responsibility. Unit 1 Who Am I – Students will collaborate and demonstrate concept of self-discipline and individual responsibility at home and at school.

Science – S.IP.00.11 Make purposeful observation of the natural world using the appropriate senses. Students have been working on the five senses. This week students will explore the senses; hearing and touching.

Language Arts – We have started Daily Five in class and are working on Reading to Self, Working on Writing and Working on Word. Daily Five is a literacy program where your child is engaged for a block of time working on writing, reading, and spelling. We have learned Daily Five CAFE strategies; where to begin reading on a page, reading from left to right,  learning to listen with understanding when read a story aloud and recognizing the cover and back cover of a book, recognizing the author and illustrator of a book.

I will not be in class Wednesday, September 24, and Thursday, September 25 I will be attending a 2 day conference. There will be a substitute in my place, Miss. Leslie.
