Dates to Remember
March is Reading Month starts next week. A calendar of events will go home on Monday. An assembly to kick-off March is Reading Month will be held on Monday, March 3 at 10:00 a.m.
Wednesday, March 5 – Author, Guy Louis will visit Nowlin for an assembly at 2 p.m.
Red Folders – I apologize, I was going to get back on track after winter break and send red folders home on Friday, and I forgot! I will send home red folders with your child’s weekly progress this Friday. I think it is important for you to check on your child’s weekly progress.
Kindergarten Spelling words – “ag” word family – bag, rag, tag sight words – said, red, run
First Grade Spelling words – “or” word family – for, form, torn sight words – will, into, black, say.
Math – First graders will take a math test on Unit 5. We will review for the math test on Wednesday. The assessment will include the following; addition and subtraction, function machine – What’s My Rule? addition and subtraction, telling time to the quarter hour and greater than and less than problems using base-10 blocks. Lastly, counting coins – who has more? How much more? – this has been a harder concept for students to understand. Drawing a diagram – a visual helps. A math practice sheet will go home on Monday to review this concept.
Reading – along with book bags going home, some first grade students brought home a reading assignment on Friday. This assignment is due any day next week. Please make sure your child completes the assignment. Thank you for your support.
Stay warm!
