Dates to Remember
Monday, February 24 – Students return to school from Mid-Winter break. 100th day collection project due. Students are to collect 100 of something and arrange their collection on a poster board to display in the hallway. Students can arrange their collection by 2’s, 5’s, 10’s or 25’s.
Thursday, February 27 – 100th day of school celebration from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. We will celebrate our 100th day of school with learning centers and a 100th day treat in the afternoon. We can use volunteers at centers and to help with our afternoon treat.
Friday, February 28 – Spelling Tests for Kindergartner and First Grade
Kindergarten – Spelling words “ad” words sad, dad, had (when preparing for spelling test – practice other “ad” word patterns, so your child will be prepared for their cold words on the spelling test). We practice word patterns in class, however, additional practice at home always helps.
Sight words – play, big, up.
First Grade – Spelling words “wh” words where, when, white Sight words – ride, ate, ran
Tip: This week’s silent “e” words (white, ride, ate). Make sure your child follows the silent “e” rule – the vowel in these words says, it’s name – long vowel sound.
We will get back on track this week with Friday red folders and Spelling notebooks. As always make sure you return spelling notebooks on Fridays for grade check. Sentence work should be completed in the notebooks. Students should be writing simple sentences on their own using their spelling words. Students are writing complete sentences in their writer’s journals at school and should be doing the same for homework.
On Wednesday, February 26 I will be out of the classroom. I will be attending a conference.
Hope you all had a wonderful, restful break!
