The first card marking ends this week. I am looking forward to meeting with you and sharing your child’s progress at parent-teacher conferences.

KINDERGARTEN
Letter of the Week K – sound/handwriting
Sound/Letter review A-Z. We are also identifying the vowels of the alphabet and their sounds AEIOU.
Sight Word review – I, a, is, the, my. New sight word for week – like.
Math – Working on writing numbers 0-20 in our number books, rolling and recording numbers on a graph sheet, making patterns and extending patterns.
Writing – We are working on writing opinions in class. How we feel about something. We will be using graphic organizers this week to help us plan our writing. Last week, we wrote about our favorite special in school.
Reading – I have finished up on reading assessments. I am thrilled with how well the kindergartners are doing in reading. Keep up the reading at home!
Science – We will review Science Unit 1 on Earth materials and our senses.
Social Studies – We will review Social Studies Unit 1.
FIRST GRADE
Spelling Words for the Week – ub and un family

Sight words – funny, look
A Dolch sight word list – will come home this week with words students need to know by third grade. First graders should know Dolch words from the Pre, Primer lists and some words from the First grade list that we have reviewed.
Starting next week, first graders will come home with individual sight word lists that they need to practice reading and spelling. This will help them to read and spell the Dolch sight words by third grade.
Math – last week Unit 2 math test came home for parent’s review. If your child’s math test is at home, please return the test with your signature. If you have already have. Thank you.
Science – Test on Wednesday. Study guide to come home to review life cycle of butterfly and to review needs of animals.
Social Studies – Test on Thursday. Study guide to come home with vocabulary and review. Test will be a multiple choice – fill in bubble with best answer.
Writing – We are working on writing opinion pieces. Students are writing with the graphic organizer – OREO (Opinion, Reason, Example, Opinion)
Reading – I have completed testing in first grade for card marking 1. We will resume our reading groups along with book bags to go home.
I am really happy with the progress first graders have made in reading. Please keep reading at home and please make sure you and your child read together. Don’t forget to fill out your reading log – this is reading homework.
