Dearborn Public Schools

Week of 4/27-5/1/2020

Hello Culinary Students and Parents.

This week both First Year and Second Year students are going to start looking at Chapter 11 in our Foundations of Restaurant Management and Culinary Arts Level One Textbook, regarding Grains and Pastas.

This week you’ll be looking at section 2 of chapter 11. We will learn about different grains and legumes, different cooking methods on how to prepare grains and legumes and methods for selecting, receiving and storing grains.

You’ll need to make sure that you login to google classroom on both Tuesday and Thursday for our classroom meetings for your daily assignments.

I’ll update you on where our new “safe” meeting place will take place after our department meeting today. I’ll be emailing you with information on Bigbluebutton found on ILearn, that will now replace our meeting times for Google Meets. The district is providing instructions on how to use this new platform and I’ll email you with directions as well.

Smile Class, its Monday 🙂

Google Classroom Information

Hello everyone. I miss you all dearly. My hope is that your all doing well.

Just a few things as we move forward with our on-line learning.

  • You’ll need to login to Google Classroom to access the assignments.

First Year access code is: mrl32ar

Second Year access code is: ofx2gef

  • You are responsible for completing the online assignments daily, as there will be due dates set and times set.
  • Cheating will not be accepted. Google Classroom allows us to see what was shared, copied or plagiarized. Don’t cheat, work on the assignment on your own and you won’t have to worry.
  • Tests will be provided via I-Learn and they too will be timed. You all have access to I-learn, just like in class.
  • We will continue with the chapters that we left off on from Thursday of last week.

First year will still be on chapter 6 Stock, Sauces and Soups

Second year will still be on chapter 4 Salads and Garnishing

Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have any additional questions.

 Yours truly,

At Home Learning

Hello Parents,

As you know we are in a very difficult situation working remotely with your student to get them through the school year.  That’s why I need your help.   Your son or daughter is a member of my Culinary Arts class and has material to work on every single day.  If your student does not continue with their online program their grade is going to drop and they will not be able to pass. You are, in essence, their homeschool teacher while we are in crisis mode.  Therefore, I am writing to kindly ask you to monitor your student in regards to their studies. Would you please encourage your student to work at least 1 to 2 hours per day?  I look forward to working with you during this time.  Please email me back to let me know that you are on board with the plan.  Together we can make this work!

Thank you.  Stay well.
