Curriculum info

Math

As part of the 3rd and 4th grade curriculum, all students need to learn their multiplication facts. If your child has not mastered them then please encourage him/her to study these facts at home so they can reach mastery.  The more quick and efficient they are in knowing these facts the easier more complicated multiplication concepts will be for them.  I recommend using multiplication flash cards to help them practice. The students will begin taking timed multiplication tests in September.

Your child will bring home assigned math most nights.  In addition, work that is not completed during the day will be homework.  Hopefully your child does not have more than 45 min. of written homework on a daily basis, if they do then he/she may not be using their class time efficiently.

Language Arts

Nightly Reading Homework: Students are required to read a minimum of 20 minutes per day/night.

Once we start rolling with the 4th grade curriculum, students  will choose a reading goal and strategy  to help them become stronger readers. These goals will change periodically. Please ask your child about their goal & strategy and encourage them to use it when they do their reading at home.

Spelling

Students will write the new spelling words in their planner on Monday of each week. Spelling tests will be on Friday.  We will do a small amount of practice during the week but students will need to practice at home as well.

Social Studies: Our first unit of study will be “The United States in spatial terms.”

Science:  Our first science concept this year will be “Energy ~ Forces & Motion.”
