Homework and Reminders 12-20-19

  1. Oakman Folder- sign and return behavior calendar for DECEMBER! See spirit week flyer—2 red booklets were sent home yesterday to complete over winter break/month of January— start with booklet with numbers 1-2 on the front which we have done most of in class (see completed ones as “example”) then begin and finish booklet with numbers 3-4 on the front be THE END OF JANUARY. The space to draw a picture is a way to respond (make a connection) to the text (story). We are working on making sure our sentence matches the picture. Your kid will need SOME assistance completing this book but should do the circling words, underlining, drawing, and writing on their own. Again this won’t be due until end of January so work on a little each day. (at least 15 minutes of reading EVERYDAY!!!!)

2. Reading bag- ***30 TOTAL***NEW SIGHT WORDS ARE IN THEIR BAGS am, do, not, who, with— I, like, the, see, we,  go, can, she, a, atis, was, willhe, has, onin, and, you,  up, look, it, my, to, and dog. Practice each night to MEMORIZE THESE WORDS!* And work on using them correctly when speaking in COMPLETE SENTENCES for example: He (when talking about a boy) vs. She (when talking about a girl). And “on” like the book is “on the table.” ***TEST OVER ALL WORDS WILL BE IN JANUARY SO PLEASE KEEP WORKING ON THESE OVER BREAK!!!!!****

3. READING GROUP BAG — 6 BOOKS are in bags to keep reading over break– most are review… make sure to fill in reading logs each day!!!! (Also can you login code and password to read/listen to more books on the computer)

***IF YOU HAVE FLUENCY DOWN, PARENTS PLEASE EXTEND the reading by asking questions such as:

  • Find the WORD “the” on this page.
  • What LETTER/SOUND do you see/hear at the beginning of the WORD?
  • What LETTER/SOUND do you see/hear at the middle of the WORD?
  • What LETTER/SOUND do you see/hear at the end of the WORD?
  • After reading, can you RETELL what happened?? What happened in the beginning, middle, and end?

4. Math Homework-MODULE 3 Lesson 15 on page 257 (homework helper is on page 255).  In class we are talking about capacity, ask your child what we did in class (yes, it involved corn— similar to water in the video we watched!!)

5. NEW library books were pick out on Tuesday for those who returned their books. Remember these are great books for listening to reading and working on comprehension.. asking and answer questions about the story, like many students are doing on their story maps!! ***THERE WILL BE A STORY MAP SENT HOME TOMORROW TO COMPLETE OVER BREAK ON LIBRARY BOOKS (Or any book at home).

6. Poem books will be sent home over break as another way to keep reading for at least 15 minutes EVERYDAY!!!!

Read, Read, Read…. and work on “rainbow e” on CLEVER!!!<— this is a good way to practice for NWEA testing!!! ***Testing will be end of January, we will let you know the EXACT dates when we return from break ***
