NWEA math will be on Wednesday, January 15th. Over the weekend, please take some time to review some practice questions from the link below for Math. Also, you can continue to work on rainbow “e” math path.
Please note, the Kindergarten year end expectation for NWEA RIT score is 160 in both math and reading. Please focus on the math boxes in the link that have a RIT range from 130-160. Happy preparing:)
NWEA kindergarten vocabulary for math and reading– try to use some of these words when working on math homework and reading books at home to reinforce what we are working on in class!
We are doing some songs to review concepts that students we see on NWEA math next week (Wednesday, January 15th) . Today we reviewed addition AND subtraction story problems. Ask your child how they can use their fingers (even on the test!!) to solve these problems and review with these fun songs and videos!
Oakman Folder- sign and return behavior calendar for JANUARY!! ***2 red booklets were sent home to complete over winter break/month of January— start with booklet with numbers 1-2 on the front which we have done most of in class (see completed ones as “example”) then begin and finish booklet with numbers 3-4 on the front be THE END OF JANUARY. The space to draw a picture is a way to respond (make a connection) to the text (story). We are working on making sure our sentence matches the picture. Your kid will need SOME assistance completing this book but should do the circling words, underlining, drawing, and writing on their own. Again this won’t be due until end of January so work on a little each day. (at least 15 minutes of reading EVERYDAY!!!! ***If complete please write a note on the front and I will check tomorrow. Reading bag- ***30 TOTAL***NEW SIGHT WORDS ARE IN THEIR BAGS am, do, not, who, with— I, like, the, see, we, go, can, she, a,at, is, was, will, he, has,on, in, and, you,up, look, it, my, to, and dog. Practice each night to MEMORIZE THESE WORDS!* And work on using them correctly when speaking in COMPLETE SENTENCES for example: He (when talking about a boy) vs. She (when talking about a girl). And “on” like the book is “on the table.” ***TEST OVER ALL WORDS WILL BE IN JANUARY SO PLEASE KEEP WORKING ON THESE OVER BREAK!!!!!****
3. READING GROUP BAG — 4-6 BOOKS are in bags to keep reading over break– most are review… make sure to fill in reading logs each day!!!! (Also can you login code and password to read/listen to more books on the computer) ***students still have several books to review as we will be doing some testing over letters, sounds, and sight words this week to determine possible NEW reading groups and levels.**
***IF YOU HAVE FLUENCY DOWN, PARENTS PLEASE EXTEND the reading by asking questions such as:
Find the WORD “the” on this page.
What LETTER/SOUND do you see/hear at the beginning of the WORD?
What LETTER/SOUND do you see/hear at the middle of the WORD?
What LETTER/SOUND do you see/hear at the end of the WORD?
After reading, can you RETELL what happened?? What happened in the beginning, middle, and end?

We are doing some song to review concepts that students we see on NWEA math next week (Tuesday, January 14th) . Today we reviewed 2D and 3D shapes. Ask your child how 2D and 3D shapes are different and review with these fun songs!
Today we started diahraphs- when 2 letters make 1 sound (first song) Homework tonight is the Sh WORD bag! Today we talked about WORDS that have a sh sound like, sheep, ship, shark, fish etc. Please find 3-5 items at home that have the sh sound in the WORD and put them in this bag for your child to share in class tomorrow (Wednesday, January 8th) Thank you!
