Movie night on Friday

This week we will focus on:

Reading/ELA: We will focus on nouns, verbs, and adjectives.  We will also be writing an informational story. Your child should be reading for 20 minutes daily. Have your child practice highlighted sight words in reading bag and read books in their reading bags and on Myon.  Spelling homework is also daily please follow directions on white paper on the inside cover of your child’s homework.

Math: we will  learn about fractions, equal parts, and adding 10 more and 10 less: this will consist of practice worksheets, math bag activities/games and Xtramath and Everyday Math online. Math bags have been coming home please use the items in there to practice what we have been learning in class.

Science: We will be learning about how people grow and change and heridity.

Social Studies: we will be learning about symbols of the United States.

First Grade Information for 3/16/15

Reading:  We will work on identifying punctuation in sentences.  We will continue working on identifying story elements.

Writing:  We will be writing, editing and publishing narratives.

Math:  We will continue learning about 2D and 3D shapes.  We will present our 3D animal to the class, and take the Unit math test.

Science:  We will complete our unit on magnets and take our science assessment.

Social Studies:  We will complete the district common assessment.

Come join us for a Super Family Literacy Night!     

Who: To all Oakman Families

When: Monday, March 9th, 2015 from 4-5:15 pm

Why: Our Family Literacy Night is your opportunity to share the joy of reading at school with your children. We invite you to participate as a family unit, in several activities during the course of the evening.

What to expect: There will be a variety of activities you and your family can choose from. Join the staff for a super night full of fun reading and writing activities!

**At all times children must be accompanied by an adult.**

There will be raffle tickets sold for $1.00 to win a basket full of surprises.

Pizza, cupcakes, baked goods and nachos will be sold in the cafeteria. Also, Book Bingo will be played. We have some great new books to win!

Reading:  we will be revisiting sentence structure, retelling stories and using details to describe stories.

Writing:  We will be writing narrative stories with a beginning, middle and end.

Math:  we will continue to learn about 2D and 3D shapes. There will be an upcoming project. Please start gathering 3-D objects for the project.
