100% Virtual Learning Year Long Option – Register on Wednesday between 9am and 3pm at Oakman Cafeteria

Greetings Parents,

On Monday, August 10 the Board of Education approved a plan for all Dearborn Public School students to return to school on-line. Students from kindergarten through high school will take classes online at least until sometime around the beginning of October.  The board will reevaluate conditions later in September to see if it is possible for some or all students to begin returning to their classrooms perhaps in a blended model of in-class and on-line learning.

The District understands there are parents who want their children in a 100% virtual learning program no matter what phase the State is in or how other students in the District are attending school.  For the parents who want a 100% on-line option for the entire school year, the school district has created the Dearborn Virtual Learning Program for students K-12.  Parents selecting this option are opting their children into the program for a one-year commitment.

In order to meet staffing, transportation, and several other components of our new school environment, it is vitally important to know how many students will join the Virtual Program. Parents seeking more information and/or are interested in opting their child(ren) into this program are highly encouraged to visit Oakman Elementary School’s cafeteria on Wednesday August 12 between 9am and 3pm.

School administrators will be on hand (social distancing, limited numbers, and masks will be enforced) on August 12 between 9am and 3pm to meet with parents. If you have children at different grade levels and buildings, you do not need to attend meetings at multiple schools.  Opt-in forms will be available and parents can opt-in all their children at one location. Here is a link to the complete schedule of schools and meetings.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SdFISdKk-c1Lbkz7Vj5irylxEkqJOKZy2J3HJGvJ_tI/edit#heading=h.e1437s49s5yw.

If you are not comfortable meeting in a safe environment at the school or are unable to attend on one of the scheduled days, please call or email the school so we may discuss this option and begin the opt-in process for your children.

We understand there are many questions, concerns, and uncertainties as we approach the start of the school year.  Our Back to School Reopen Committee has spent many hours considering all of the health, safety, logistical, and educational concerns before making their recommendations. Our Board spent many hours reviewing those recommendations including a six hour Study Session to hear from the various sub-committees and stakeholders.  We are now ready to move forward, together, to ensure what will be an interesting, but great, start to the 2020-21 school year.

Have a great day

5th Grade Congratulations Message from Mr. Abu-Rus and Farewell Video

There are times in each of our lives that mark particularly special occasions. Today is such an occasion. Today you can say I’ve finished my elementary school phase!

Here at Oakman Elementary, you took the first of many important steps in your lives. Here you have learned skills and developed talents. Those skills and talents will be the foundation for whatever you achieve or learn in the future. You will build on them and find out many more fascinating things about you and life surrounding  you. The skills you have mastered here will last you for the rest of your lives.

Today is a special day for you and for your family. Today you have every reason to be proud of all the skills you have mastered because with them you will be able to succeed in doing even more. I don’t know what the future holds for you! Yet I have no doubt that each and every one of you has the potential to do something special with your lives. You see, each one of you is already a very special and unique person! While you have been here, you have learned not just math, science and the other subjects; you have begun to learn and to take part in the society around you. You have learned many varied skills, from sports through to singing. Here you began to be the wonderful creative beings that you will one day fulfil! You have begun to form opinions and learned how to behave towards each other. You have formed friendships that, hopefully, will continue for the rest of your lives.

Oakman Lions, You have been excellent students and we are sorry to see you leave. Yet we know that it is in the nature of things for you to grow up and to move on. We hope that you will remember your years here fondly and that you remember your teachers equally fondly.

Today, I give you the same blessing as Christopher Columbus was undoubtedly given many years ago when he set sail to discover a new world. May your seas be calm seas, may the wind that fills your sails be a following wind and may God bless each one of you on your voyage through life.

Best Regards,

Mr. Abu-Rus

Principal

Have a Great Summer! | Bay Shore Classroom Teachers Association
Parents this poem was in the back of the binders I dropped off to each of you. I hope you read them and saw the sunflower seeds for you to plant with your child. I loved watching your children blossom this school year, thank you for sharing them with me. I am sending them back to you for you to continue to work with them all summer long to make sure they will be ready for 1st grade! I am so proud of each and everyone of my friends hard work!
Love, Mrs. Fowler

Thank you for a great school year!!!— what an experience it has been!! From the bottom of my heart, it has been so special and so rewarding to see how parents, teachers, students, support staff, and community leaders have come together to make sure learning has continued, I am sooo proud of each of you!!!

PLEASE continue to read and and work comprehension quizzes using the RAZ KIDS website so that your child is ready for 1st grade!! If you do not read daily over the summer, summer slide happens and reading levels will go down in the fall.  It is important to take 20 minutes every day to read on the computer, in print books, and use CLEVER resources, such as reading eggs and rainbow “e”.  Also, the  summer packet that is in the binders we delivered should be completed over the summer!! Try to do 1 page of the reading section and 1 page of the math section EACH DAY!

Remember to help increase your child’s vocabulary continue to ask them questions and encourage them to answer in complete sentences and write in their notebooks/red booklets that we sent home as well.

Have a wonderful summer- be safe, be kind, and be responsible so that you are ready to be an Oakman Lion 1st grader in the fall!!!

**Be on the lookout for a *special individualized* virtual gift from me through the REMIND APP this morning!!***

I miss and love each of you!
