Weekly Update

Good Morning!

I hope everyone is staying warm and enjoying the snow.  Today, Tuesday, will be a half day with dismissal at 11:45 am.  This week we begin marking period three.  I can’t believe we are halfway through the year already.  This is a chance for everyone to start brand new again.  Please encourage your child to put forth his or her best effort this card marking.  We will be taking the NWEA reading test on Wednesday.  We are starting new math and social studies units this week.  There will not be any new spelling words again this week due to a short week and NWEA testing.

Here is what our week looks like.

Math:  We are beginning module 3 which will focus on multiplication and division.  Students are required to memorize basic multiplication facts up to 10 by the end of third grade.  Please encourage your child to practice with flashcards everyday.

Science:  We will be investigating how temperature affects evaporation.

Social Studies:  Our new unit will focus on the economics of Michigan.  This week we will learn how entrepreneurs use natural, human, and capital resources to manufacture products.

Reading:  We will focus on describing characters in a story and analyzing how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.  I’m very proud of how well students did on the I-Ready diagnostic test last week.  Please continue practicing at home for those that can access the program.

Writing:  We will continue planning our opinion topics by organizing our claim statement, reasons for that claim, and evidence.
